Make sure that you are not configuring the recommended system. The coupon will not work on Inspiron 1000's, Outrageous Deals, Recommended Solutions, Deals of the Week!

I opted for the 4yr onsite for $269 after $100 rebate on my 700m. Basically I am paying $5.61 per month knowing that all the hardware (less battery maybe?) is covered, and also for a good piece of mind.

we'll, for me, I am a poor college student, so trying to squeeze an extra 200 for an extended warranty is sort of hard.

poor college student = cliche

Get a 2nd job or ask your parents for the money and offer to pay them back.

How are the dells? My mom wants a laptop, and she said a dell, since she has a dell desktop and likes it. Just wanted to make sure they were up to par. I'm sure they are no IBM, but how do they compare to HP/compaq, emcahines, gateway, toshiba?

Also what model is a good choice, mobility is not the main concern, while lighter is better, it doesn't matter to much as she won't take it with her everywhere. Should she opt for one of the(not sure what thier codename is)lower speed(yet more efficent)CPU's, or one of the mobile P4's? Any benches or info on how the CPUs compare to each other?

what's the difference between M and the p4's? does anyone have experience with more than one of the machines? my friend has a 700m and those are prety cool.. sorta small but i guess that's sorta what i want.. mobility is most important since this will be taken everywhere.. i'm only guessing the wxga is just a widescreen version of xga? why would i get a 700m as opposed to a 600m? the 600m's got 256mb more of ram.. and the 700m has widescreen if that's what the W means..

so.. any experiences? thanks in advance

Pentium M is the main mobility processor that Intel offers.. Uses a LOT less battery power and is comparable to a P4. The 2.0ghz Pentium M is about the same as a 3.2 or 3.4 P4. The pentium M does better if office applications and such while the P4 does better with 3d rendering. With an 8 cell lith-ion battery you should be able to push 5hrs batterly life with a Pentium M where a P4 would get around 2.

and yes.. the W means widescreen.

Ask my parents for money huh? Thats funny. I pay for school by myself & to top that off I just spent almost 2000 repairing my car. So that does not leave me to much room for money.

it is getting expensive.. fortunately for me, daddy pays the bills.. thanks dad...

another question for those of you who have the 700m.. have any of you tried running cad programs ie pro/e or autocad? that would be my main use.. at least for this semester.. i know it's a long shot to ask, but hell, may as well ask

Really nice. You can actually customize the Inspiron 8600 notebooks and still get the discount. Does anyone know what I should opt for with a decent gaming rig if I am on a 1300$ budget.?

Damn, just couldn't say no. Got the 8600 but added the 64MB video and 60GB HD to boost it past $1500 for the 25% coupon.

Total plus tax: $1,217.38 -$200 mail in rebate= $1017.38

Total savings of ($1517+ $80 tax) - $1017.38 = $580!

What a steal.
