ok, i forgot what i was here for...

for those of you that got your 700m's, do you have suggestions on sleeves? i was thinking the zero force .. it looks pretty cool.. pretty protective, but $40 (after shipping and tax) is a lot to spend on a sleeve.. should i just spend extra on a good laptop backpacK? i'd definately want a sleeve to put in my backpack, or get a cool lookin laptop backpack.. any ideas??

Hey, did everyone get their 200.00 rebate? They just sent me a letter saying that my laptop was eligable but my rebates for the 600m & 5160 went through. I called them up & they said that the rebate was not listed on my packing slip.

Now some marketing "gurus" came up with the idea of charging more for the smaller ones. Ok fine, I gues that's what the marketing people get paid to do, but why do you people fall for it ? Get it thru your head, 12" costs less to produce than 15", you're just being gouged because of its current trendiness....

it's lighter, and that makes it worthy for some people but not for others. people pay a price for thin and lights/ultraportables, but that's not to say it's a waste: for the business traveler, a 3-4 lb. notebook is better than the the 15.4" wide screen 8600 that weighs twice as much (8 lbs).

i originally had the 8600, but returned it because i found a better deal on a cheaper 700m. but carrying the 700m back and forth to work/school is much easier than lugging around the 8600.

granted, it was hard to give up the WUXGA high resolution screen of the 8600, but the 700m LCD isn't bad, actually. it can at times be too reflective, but it's not a bad resolution for the size (still, i'd prefer an WSXGA option, but oh well).

I would have gotten the 8600, but the 9700 is definitely faster than the 9600 Pro, and I could'nt afford anything above a 1.5ghz Celly-M. I guess that means I'm now officially a slave to power outlets....

This must be the understatement of the year. The 9700 pro and 9600 pro are like from two different planets. Suffice to say that if you replace a 9600p with a 9700p in the exact same system, your overall gaming performance (average frames per second) will double.

Anyway, congrats. 9700 forever.

i thought the difference between the ATI mobility 9600 vs. 9700 is not the same difference between the 9600 vs. 9700 on the desktop? online groups have equated the mobility 9700 to the performance boost more of a 9600XT...

yes, mobility radeon 9700 pro is a 4 pipe gpu, but clocked higher than mr9600, not 8 pipe as its desktop counterpart. Also, i believe you right that its performance is around desktop 9600xt, i remember seeing that on tomshardware.com
