I really screwed up not buying 2 of the T5500 C2D N100 Lenovos when Office Depot had them on sale for $599, nice rig, now they are $1049, doh. I got it for a relative overseas, live and be dumb. You are right on being painful to uninstall crap, but leave some things that might be useful.

well been working last 2hr making recover DVD's cheap ass HP no recovery disc at all
upgraded to 1.5g of memory so far what little I have used it performance is very impresive
both memory slots are filled with 512 ea so had to get a 1g to replace 1 of the 512s

will report back more info once I get done and actualy get ot use it

also not noted on the ad this is a entertainment edition come with a nifty little remote

Also picked up a Compaq C509NR for 399 it is hidden in the ad page 4 I think top right corner very small print added 512 of memory and it runs nice for only having Vista Home Basic..my son is happy with it

yes Aero glass does work on it
could not check untill I was done burning my Disc's but it does have Aero Glass

$599.00 in Arizona, picked one up! I must say this is a great laptop for the money! I would pay $200.00 more for this unit...everything is working great and it looks very sharp...even came with a remote that stores into the PCMCIA slot. Plays CS well at lower resolution and medium settings! NO COMPLAINTS HERE! Does have Vista CD, Recovery Disks and HP Partition. Web cam is excellent quality...used it on SKYPE! FUN FUN FUN!

There's no recovery disks. Only a vista upgrade cd. You have to still manually make them. You only get to do this one time too

toshiba's come with full recovery dvd, gatways come with bare OS disc, have to make your app's/driver's disc. rest you have to burn your own discs.

You can purchase the HP recovery discs for ~$15 from HP.

I'm not sure if its just the OEM Vista CD or the acutal recovery discs (the drive image when they ship the laptop).

How can they enforce this? After you make a recovery disk, can't you just use Nero to make another copy?
