I doubt it. I never have had a single problem with anything on my computer before, and I tried every conceivable setting I could think of. Anyway, it's a moot point now because the power supply no longer works. I plug it in, but the blue light on the power box never comes on. I've checked it in several outlets and even with other cords that I know to be fine.

Oh well. Like I said, it worked for some, so it was indeed a hot deal. I'm just too cool for it.

Hey, guess who's an idiot? That's right - ME! I just did as others suggested and set my lappy drive to cable select and sure enough this thing worked just as advertised. Thanks to the OP and those who pointed out my PICNIC error.

Mind works perfectly fine under Windows XP (no additional drivers required)...

well in this case it appears to be user error - i have a add in card that is supposed to be usb 2, and it turns out pc only reads it as usb 1 - tried the onboard 2's from the mb and it works fine

mea culpa

I ordered this one

Alternate IDE/USB posted earlier

because it looked more "together". What came was nicer looking with a molded black IDE connector with a black USB pigtail about 2 feet long. I plugged in the 12v power supply (also nicely molded black) and hooked up a 160GB Maxtor drive that had been zero'ed out.

Was recognized in WinXP Pro immediately and I setup, formatted and am loading data to it as I type. It comes with a mini-disk with Win9x drivers. I setup as NTFS and the flimsy little page "user manual" states that FAT, FAT32 and NTFS are all supported.

Cost was a little more at $18 shipped.

Cool - just ordered one of these since it sounds a bit more reliable than the one from the OP - thanks!

Just wanted to comment that I purchased this and tried it and it worked great! Didn't have to install drivers, no jumper issues, just plugged it in and it immediately worked (well, after 20ish seconds it worked)! Highly recommend the product and was very happy with the vendor!

Some to consider: The cyclone (Alternate IDE/USB posted earlier $18 shipped) supports drive up to 250GB while the PCMS supports drive up to 400GB.

Does the cyclone comes with a "brick" power supply?

The power supply isn't a block you plug into the outlet. You take a standard PC power cable to plug into the "brick" which you then plug into the HDD.

(Sorry, didn't know if you were referring to "brick" as the big bulky thing that blocks other outlets or this.)

No you're correct i was asking if both had a brick like PS and it seems they do.
So bottom line, the PCMS is the way to go or the cyclone?

This is closer to what PCMicro actually shipped me (not the Cyclone) when I order the "alternate" - exact same box except no Sabrent logo on front. Slighter better looking molded cable to IDE connection.

The box label states the item as "SBT-UI235" which is how I googled this look-alikes.

Better match to product than shown by PCMicro

May be limited to 250GB as stated above based on this link.

THis link

and this page says it's good to 400GB.....pwhatt - typical web stuff, need to have some real person try it to find out.

Now that I look some more, this is what PCMicro shipped me (and it's priced at $15+$1 shipping vs. the $18 that I paid. lol)
What the customer got....

Great feedback, thanks Lark888! It sucks that they didn't send you what you order, hope they replace at no cost to you, have you tried to call them?

Also, has anyone been able to confirm if the PCMS/sabrent support up to 400GB HDs?

I'm happy with the cyclone that I ordered. If the 250GB limitation is not a concern for you, I definitely recommend this. However, I am too ignorant to say if this is better than the PCMS as I have no experience with the PCMS. But my bottom-line recommendation (best I can give) is if the 250GB limitation is not a problem, get the Cyclone. If it is, consider the PCMS.
