Okay... hope I don't hear all the bashing for this being a non-tech deal... but I think this is pretty hot. I just found out recently that a baby I have on the way is going to be a boy (99.5% sure) and since our last was a girl we are going to be hurtin' for the boys clothes. Usually The Children's Place Clothes stores are pretty expensive but right now they are haveing a large sale they call their MONSTER SALE. Signs are all over the store that advertise up to 50% off... but don't be fooled!!! I found many things that are 75% off and others up to 90% off and more!! I went to two stores and both were using the following scheme:

1 red line through tag 33% off
2 red lines through tag 50% off
3 red lines through tag 75% off

BE WARNED... some of them are wrong... I found that they were being lazy and some of the 2 line stuff was ringing up 75% as well... etc.


90% off was random and happened to some of the merchandise that appeared to be only 75% off.. Socks... hats and stockings mostly.

YES this is a B&M deal... but I did notice that some of the deals applied to their on-line site as well and the shipping didn't look too bad.

If the deals are not obvious (many in one of the stores were not) ask the workers... they know the current prices in and out... they didn't even have to scan the things and knew them off the top of their heads at my stores. I found $10 printed tee-shirts and mock turtle necks for for only 99cents (usually $10 each) and some cute stretch knit Capri pants for only 99 cents (usually $10 as well.)

I saved HUNDREDS and got some really nice duds for the little critters... and critter to be.


On another note... you can usually get more money on consigment stores for the brand name clothes after the kids are through w/ them. This is significant since you are paying so little for them now that the net result could actually be free to you if you have a good 2nd hand store in the area and don't want to keep them after...

Coolness... I was very surprised by the amount of clothes I found... obviously some stores are going to be more picked over than others but as of yesterday the Waterford CT store had TONS left. I stumbled upon this deal just before New Years on Sunday at the Providence Place Mall in Rhode Island and it was getting hit pretty hard by shoppers but they just kept rolling clearance merchandise out from the back... crazy. If anyone is near one of their outlet locations I was told by the manager that they have even more of the deals... she specifically mentioned Maine but I'm sure other locations apply if they are out there.

ChurchOfSubgenius - I know the feeling... but since I'm putting the wife through school and she is not working at the moment I was ALL OVER this one. Any good deals I can get at this point. Speaking of monster truck... I picked up so many
things that it tipped the cart over that we were pushing... Problem is that my 20 month old daughter was still in the cart! Jeez... caught it just in time. Bad daddy. (ahhh... hon... can you give me a little hand here ... {straining to hold cart half-way tipped over} ) Quite a scene it made. I haven't done a serious B&M deal in a while and apparantly I forgot the finer points of the physics of cart loading. haha...


Additional info on this deal: If you don't mind taking a small hit on your credit report in exchange for a little more saved you can sign up for their credit card at this point and get another 15% off... I spent a good deal of money and it saved me enough to do it. They will let you put the order on it right there if you want... but I decided not too as I plan on cancelling it as soon as it comes in.

Excellent! Got my red pen in hand and heading to CP! So let me make sure I understand correctly. If it has one red line through price, I just make two more to increase the discount to 75%?

I don't think adding a line will work for you... It's in their scanning price system already... I think the lines just help them recognize what stock is which when they are merchandising on the floor so they don't mix clearance vs non-clearance. The employees seem to know all the stock very well and I doubt you would get very far w/ that.

I posted about the lines b/c sometimes signs are not very clear or they don't have very good sign placement and things that you don't think are clearance based upon signage actually are.

Also... like I said earlier... in some of the stores they are a bit slow getting the lines on the tags... Things may be marked down further than they seem based upon the line technique of recognizing the deals. Best bet is if you have any questions of price just go up and ask... I was surprised that a few things that only looked like they were going to be 50% off or at most 75% off were actually in fact about 90% off... crazy.

Like any B&M deal... some stores may be more picked over than others. I found much more in the 2nd store I went to about 3 days after the first one.

According to the manager they don't have any known schedule... things just pop up as clearance automatically and they have to run around and move items to clearance racks as soon as they are notified of the new prices.... it's all controlled by the main office apparantly.

somewhat close to me.. hell... it's worth the trip.

I feel the pain in your wallet... I actually made a comment on how sparse the crowd in the babygap was looking while across the way they were hounding The Kids Place... hehe. Babygap/gapkids were only offereing about 25% off clearance prices and they were sticking to it in the stores we stopped in.

No fear... the Capris are for the 20 month old girl and should remain that way unless I am extraordinarily tired one morning...
