HSN.com is selling the Epson 780 PhotoPrinter for $68.50. If you have never purchased anything from them before there is a 25% coupon (look for it).

I hope this is a good one for my first post here.

I bought that same printer for my wife about 3 months ago and paid over $100 for it. It does a good job on the photo quality.

I would check www.dpreview.com for comments on the printer.

I have it and it is truely amazing with photographs. Buy it and use Epson ink and Epson photo paper and you will be amazed. Get photo paper, premium glossy photo paper or color life photo paper (listed in increasing price and quality). I tried other papers (Kodak) and the results were horrible. The results justify buying the Epson paper. I found all the epson ink and paper at www.bhphoto.com. Other than that you can buy in direct from epson online with free shipping but its full retail.

I have been flooring my friends with images I have been printing. Nobody has been able to tell the difference between a normal film print and the output of this printer.

You might want to also consider the photo 820 which is replacing the 780.

um, don't forget to credit your source (techb@rgains) for the deal...

Anyway, I am looking for a printer for a gift so this is nice. I just have to weigh it against the HP one I was looking at.

I agree 100% about the 780 printer - even better photo quality than the Epson 880, in my opinion. The tradeoff though, is that the 780 uses chipped cartridges, so generic inks are much costlier than the 880 ink carts. The 780 which I had, and the 785epx which I have now, also suck up a lot of ink (as evidenced by bleed-through on the reverse side of the paper). If your priority is superb print quality over ink cost, then the 780 is fine...if you're a miser and would be put off by $10 black and color generic ink cartridges, then the 780 is probably not the best choice for you.

I disagree about the paper...I have both Epson paper and Jet-Print paper. The Jet-Print paper is far superior to any consumer-grade paper that I have seen. The Epson paper is very good compared to most other brands; it's just not as good as Jet-Print.

Among graphic professionals ans professional photographers, a high percentage of those are using Epson printers for printing from digital images. This printer can do borderless 4x6. If you are using a 2 or 3 Mb digital pictures and use the high quality compressed setting, your picture will look better than those from most non professional photo labs. This machine uses the same ink jet technology as the more expensive model. Don't not let the dpi number fools you. Most review I read says that there is no difference in image when you are using the 1,440 dpi vs. the 2,880 dpi on this printer. I can attest to it once I use the same settings to print out numbers of same picture to pass around. The higher dpi setting actually makes the print very saturated. This printer can print panorama up to 44" long. Of course you have to have a 20 Mb file to have acceptable quality.

This is the best printer for the value. Epson is coming out with new 2,880 x 1,440 dpi printers after Christmas. These newer models will have better features, not necessary better quality with the same setting.

Also, if you are using Epson printer, try to use Epson paper only. There is no generic cartridge for this printer. The average $19 cartridge print about 40-60 4x6s with 1,440 x 720 setting. Epson paper is less expensive than HP paper but more than Kodak. At first I did not believe it. Not until I read a very scientific article from a lab describing the technology of ink chararteristics on different papers. It also says that the worse combination is using HP paper on Epson printer and vice versa since inks by HP reacts differently to papers by Epson.

I have several printers. This one is used just for photographs only becasue of the cost of ink. I also use an older inkjet printer that accepts generic ink to print other then photos. This works well for me.

Epson is coming out with features to make printing CD labels and from the camera etc easier.

Last of all, Epson has proposed a system to ensure the camera color profile match the output profile. If this is true, this will improve the color. Already majority of camera manufacturers are signing up.

Kodak, Canon and HP makes great color printers. Just like Nikon during the SLR period, they are the trendsetters. All these companies make great high end printers. This Epson 780 may be all you need for the next few years.

Yes i agree... this is a hotdeal!!

I have a 875DC and 880.

Using Epson Glossy Photo paper with the 875... at 1440dpi. Man.. hard to tell if the print is a photograph or a digital print!!

The 780 is an excellent low cost printer.. $51 is a deall!

Anyone use Inksupply's "Continuous Ink Flow" system with archival inks?
I'm using the 880 with Megatoner's Chinese generic ink. It looks great, on Epson paper, but too blue on JetPhoto. I just want to use the ink up and replace it with archival quality. I'd get a 870/5 Photo, but not with "chipped cartrigaes" vs cheap ink tanks.

TIA!!

Sure there is. A number of sites offer black and color generic cartridges. I paid $9.99 for each generic cartridge for the 780.

Epson Photo Quality Inkjet Paper 8½" x 11''
100 Sheets $8.99

Epson Glossy Photo Paper 8½" x 11" 94 Bright

I've studied a tiny bit about printers - and I know for a fact that ink types and paper types affect the output to a very noticeable degree. So what's the final verdict, I would be printing 8.5x11 photo prints at max quality from my Canon S110 - will this printer be my best choice. I want the best possible quality - but I am on a budget. Wiser to go with the 880 and buy generic inks? Go with the 780 and buy generic inks? Go with Epson inks? My dad owns a print shop, so I'm sure he'd have Epson-quality paper (or something better maybe)

Epson inkjet printers are capable of the best quality photo
prints of any of the inkjets, provided you use their paper and
ink.

HOWEVER, Epson inkjet printers have a HORRIBLE problem with
clogging heads. If you don't use the printer fairly regularly,
the heads will clog, and you can waste half an (expensive) cartridge
of ink trying to unclog them *IF* you can unclog them.

After dealing with this continually on several different Epsons,
I swore off Epsons for life. The hassle is JUST NOT WORTH IT.

I've had a huge problem with clogged heads on Epson printers in the past, but I thought it was due to the generic refillable things I was buying. Took me about a full ink cartridge to get it printing fine again. I think I'm going to go with this printer and use it sparingly - I'll use my Epson640 to daily printing and the like. You can't be cheap if you want the best!

OR, is it worth it to get the 820 for $150 - $30 coupon - $50 rebate + $0 shipping = $70 at staples?

>>>The Epson 780 does not allow you to use generic ink. It has the chip in it.<<<

Gee, I guess that Megatoners is shipping Epson brand inks for $9.99 then?...NOT.

As I said previously, I HAVE used generics with the 780...and they work just fine. There are several vendors selling these, and you can easily verify for yourself that GENERICS are available, with a simple Web search.

The best prints I have made with Epson printers (using the 785epx currently) have been on Jet Print paper. The photo quality with this paper is far better than with Epson glossy paper, in my opinion.

Epson is nice, but it's not very durable. They break down a lot it seems like to me. Mine does at least.

Seems like the only difference between the 780 and the 820 is speed, and minimal at that, and maybe the envelope sizes it handles. Can anyone verify this?

I also can verify that I found generic carts for the 780.

Looked all over for the coupon and couldn't find it. Did I miss something? I'm looking for a photo printer. Had to join (instead of just reading) just to ask this question
