DVD2one is good for flicks less than 6GB but when you start going above that you'll get horrible macroblocks...thus that's where IC steps in. Just unselect everything except menu and main movie and have at it. Choose which subs and audio you wish keep and be done with it. DVD2ONE rulez for speed no arguement there it just suffers from movies that are long say over 2 and half hours in length. Erwin suppose is tweaking the engine to compensate for that. If he manages to pull it off then hands down dvd2one is the winner in my book. I'll use IC7 for when quality is an issue though and also for multi-episode dvds, etc.

i recommend that ANYONE using PIC read MrBass's guide. I found it a few weeks ago on dvdrhelp.com's forums (i think). Pay close attention to the IC7_MovieOnly_reg.zip. That is a WONDERFUL reg file that lets you uncheck any video parts you don't want in there (great for getting rid of any extras or behind the scenes type stuff you don't want) and you can then bump up the video quality cause you will have more space.

Thanks MrBass

Sometimes errors occur because you rip the dvd wrong. It did give me errors at first but If you chose macrovision off, region off... and some other settings off.... can't remember...

here: if you're using Smartripper:

on settings. and "Movie" tab
- key- check every vob-file
- Create List-File
-Unlock Drive
-demacrovision
-copy ifo-file
-create index-file
-ignore low discspace
-create info-file

On the Files/Backup tab:

-Region Free (patch "Video_ts"
-Unlock Drive
-Demacro

Since I've started using those settings with Smartripper, there's nothing that goes wrong. I love this program. (If you want to keep all the extras.

I still use Dvd2one if the extras are not worth the effort.

I kept getting errors half way through the burn. Here is how I solved the problem.

1) DVDDecrypter - Create an ISO on the Hard Drive
2) Instant Copy the ISO to PDI files that will compress the movie to fit on a DVD-R
3) PDI2ISO - Convert the PDI Files to Smaller ISO (About 5 Minutes on my PC)
4) Delete the Original ISO (Free Up Space)
5) Nero ISO to DVD-R

Works EVERY Time!

I don't know about any problems with NERO. I used the steps I listed and just finished watching Spy Kids 2. Sucky movie, but it was free (OK, it cost $1.47 for the Media) and I used Nero for the Burn.

Nothing but problems with this program. I cannot get it to do anything. It will not save to save data to the destination when I select to save to HD and it will not recoginize my dvd-r (104) as a writer. I am open to this program for multi episode, but this is a real pain in the ass. Any one have any ideas what is going on, I have looked everywhere for answers.

I tried Instant Copy the other day and I wasn't impressed with the quality of the movie, because it doesn't spend much time on reencoding it. I can only assume that it just does one CBR (Constant Bit Rate) pass, so that it is fast. I was impressed with the idea of being able to keep all of the menus and stuff, but it doesn't let you take big extras out; only reduce their reencode quality. I think this program has a lot of potential though. They just need to give you more options.

If I want to make a backup of a DVD, I use CCE and do a 5 pass VBR (Variable Bit Rate) to keep as much quality as possible while reducing the size of the movie. This only takes a few hours to do on my computer (Pentium 4 overclocked to 4.2GHz). After that I just compile it in DVD Maestro with the audio tracks I want (like 6 channel AC3 and DTS). Of course, I don't get to keep all of the menus and extra features, but I don't really care about that stuff. I know that you can use IFO Edit to keep the menus while reencoding the movie with almost any program--I just don't think it's worth it.

I have also used DVD X Copy. I like that it allows you to keep everything with its original quality, but I don't like that crap it adds before the beginning of the movie. It also gets rid of everything that originally played before the movie would come on (still on the disc, but doesn't show it) and it does some bizarre things to some of the more sophisticated DVD's.
