I've used the S-Series in my setup for a few years. I've come across good deals on better speakers, such as Swan DIVAs, but never been motivated to upgrade. These things sound good... in 3+ years of 3+ hours per day of music and movies, I've rarely experienced listener fatigue. Often I'll catch a sublime bit of sound and marvel at these bulky but delicate boxes. When I want to I can shake the paint off the walls. As a semi-professional movie critic ( my dossier) I've always felt in the thick of things with this setup.

You can see pictures/specs here:

I believe that set comes in a 4.1 or 5.1 package and it's $500 US. The reason is I can use these outdoors if 4 fluance will sound better for the same amount of money.

TIA,

I have not hear the fluance - but they have stamped frame drivers ( like the onkyo set ) probably 1/2 particle board and chead crossovers.

the jbls are cast aluminum... big difference

the tweeter / midrange combo looks to be the same as the well reviewed s38's

SHAZAM! Went back to my local Best Buy at lunchtime, had a blue-shirt pull down one of the 2 S36II boxes up on the top stock shelf, then noticed that the other one up there appeared to have BB packaging tape holding it shut, so I asked if it might be an open-box item. They pulled it down, and it had in fact been opened and re-sealed. Both boxes rang up $129.99, but they sold me the open-box for $109.99. Sweet! I bought them both, will now have 3 pairs of JBL S36II speakers to play with. I'll use 4 in the main system as surrounds and rears in a 7.1 setup, and the other 2 as surrounds in the second (5.1) setup. Very nice dealon the PM version, and thanks for the headsup on the even better deal for the non-PMs (only difference is cabinet color).

Frys has some polk floor standing 2 way speakers for $200 a pair. Dual 6.5 Woofers. Magnetically sealed.
R50 #3679035. How do these compare to the JBLs? Could I use these for the fronts and the JBL's for the rears in a new htpc system? I have an Audigy 2 card and a Kenwood reciever to use as an amp.

<edit>
Hmm, might be too tall for what im trying to do... Still looks like a good deal. Anyone see any good deals on powered subs?

Excellent! Seems to me, after checking out the S36II and S36IIPM speakers I got my grubby little hands on today, and after much hunting for info on the web, including at the JBL web site, where you can find product pages for both items, that these are the same exact speakers, just with different color cabinets and different marketing lingo -- the polymer-coated cellulose fiber of the woofer and midrange is called "PolyPlas" for the S36II and "WeatherPlas" for the S36IIPM. Same exact stuff, though. Ditto for the tweeters. Looks like they just decided to market these as specialty speakers, perhaps because of the unusal appearance, and came up with the "Plasma Monitor" and "All Weather" tags. Heh. Anyway, I'd bet the house the timbre matching is dead-on for these 2 models, a very good thing for those of us who managed to snag both.

Glad you guys were able to get the same deal as I did in the store... I had ordered a pair from the website early yesterday before I went to store, so I have to decide if I'm gonna return that other pair or keep it. From the little bit I've auditioned the speakers so far, I'm happy with them.

As usual my local BB (Albany,NY) won't match the web price. Then today I drove to Saratoga, the csr was going to sell them for web price but it showed up as $299 wtf? Great deal for those who got them. :frown:

Guess the standard still applies, when you see a deal too good to be true, it's either a scam, or get in on it before it's gone.... I got in on this one.

Sweet, I got these today for $129 after tax OTD with a 4 year service plan at best buy. The only thing is that these were floor models, but, they weren't damaged (no typical crushed cone caps), and I got the 4 year on them at no "extra" cost. The dude gave me the speakers for $89, and the service plan was $29.99. Not bad imo. They wanted $399 for the PM versions (which they had only one box left of)....and didn't have any more of the regular in a box, so I just bit the bullet and got the floor ones.

Nice speakers. Sounds great on my Nakamichi stereo Receiver2.

I was planning on using these as surrounds. Turns out they were about 50% bigger than I expected, and they weigh considerably more than what I was expecting. Those two items, along with a new purchase I decided to make made these a return item.
