memory size limited by 512 MBytes because of i815 chipset

Dual CPU with 512MB limit, joke right?

Nah, no joke. Acorp did what noone else had the cajones to do. Intel didn't officially condone the use of the 815 in a SMP configuration, but Acorp went ahead and built a stable and inexpensive dual board. Frankly, I have two dual boxes and both have 512MB of memory. I believe that's fine for most workstations but I can understand needing a good deal more for a highly trafficed server.

For those who swear by Intel platforms, the Acorp is one of the easiest ways to get SMP on the cheap. Heh, and $40 is a good price for just about any new full ATX mobo. For me, the deal breaker is the processors...P3's are just too frickin' expensive for their clock speeds. I'd rather spend another $100 or so on the motherboard and get a couple of Athlon MP's (or XP's with the L5 bridge closed).

Best regards,
Floyd

Bump for a cheap dually setup

If your interested in more info, they're also talking about it over at 2cpu over here.

I ordered one. Think I've got enough parts around here to put something together...

The price just got lowered to $35. I might just get one and hang it on the wall.

Forget what I said before. I caved. For this price I'll probably just put a Celeron in it and give it someone less fortunate.

I couldn't resist. For ~$41 shipped thats a great deal on a dual Intel chipset (though it has the 512mb limitation). I already have a 700mhz P!!! so I may have to get another Now to find a deal on P!!!'s

Damn this, I want to get one, but don't have any P3's around.. and they aren't really that cheap...

I have a pair of celeron 366's that ran at 550 (but I think the bp6 broke), but I wouldn't think this board would support them in dual (the pin trick)

it has a promise lite raid controller. too bad, it would be sweet if it were at least a full promise chip or a highpoint. you can only have one multidrive array (one RAID 0 or RAID 1) and no RAID 0+1 support. maybe there is a hacked BIOS that lets you do 0+1 or two arrays.

Just curious, but how does this Acorp motherboard compare to the Abit VP6 dual motherboard? Thanks!

not much related, but may be interested to read if you want to go into Dual Processor...

workstation performace shootout

so basically, you have to know what application you are into, and choose wisely...

3D rendering and scientific application..... consider AMD MP dual
media encoding and graphics applications....consider P4 or dual P4 Xeon
but it is safe to say a single high speed CPU can do just about the same of dual setup without the price.

Not sure a Dual PIII will help you more than a one fast AMD XP (mb+CPU will cost even less than a this Acorp plus 2 PIII)

No, AFAIK all AGP 4x slots are backwards compatible with 2x, but not 1x.

People have tried, pin trick and all, but no one has been successful. Do a search for "acorp" in the forums at www.2cpu.com for details.

quick note.

i have a client who purchased a P4 server from a pc vendor, (i only do software, i never sell hardware). anyway, this p4 server is a POS. all my p3 servers run better and faster than the p4 server. the p4 server really doesn't like it when someone logs in via terminal services. it really slows down the machine for the local user.

all my other clients w/ p3 get much better response.

i got in on this deal. I have the board all setup and installed, but some reason it will not boot to Windows. I did a fresh format on the HD and loaded XP pro on it. I can startup Windows in safe mode, but that dosnt do me any good. What happens is that after the Windows XP load screen comes up with the status bar, right before it would normally load up Windows, it just goes to a black screen and stays there. I think it might have to do with the RAID adpater. I am not using a RAID array, just one 20gig drive. Is there any way to disable raid? When I boot up, it always prompts me to setup the raid array, when i try to configure it, it tells me that no raid is found. I didn't find anything in the BIOS that mentioned disabled RAID.

Any help?
