spartantech.com has in stock MicroStar K7t Pro2-A for $118, a much better deal than the $113 Pro2 a couple of weeks ago. The pro2-A supports up to 1.2 gig CPU as well as UDMA/100 IDE. It seems to be the best MB for AMD overclocking.

Actually it is 138.00 if you scroll down.

Maybe they saw a mistake and fixed it.

Too bad.

I have the K7TPro2, and it's an excellent board. I noticed one peculiar reference on MSI's website (Taiwan, not US) -- it says that the Pro2 (not the A) can handle from 600MHz-1.2GHz or higher, which implies to me that they will be adding additional support through BIOS updates for faster processors.

Inosuke, you probably looked at the Pro-100, priced at $137. The Pro2-A is several item above it. I already ordered 2 and shipping is $8 each. Total cost $252.

The only difference between the Pro2 and Pro2a is the new southbridge chip which is ATA 100 compatable. I Love My Pro2. And, the only difference between a Pro and a Pro2 is the inclusion of bios cofiguration(minutely configurable IMO) instead of jumpers and the smart diagnostics(lights and voice) which tell you what's screwed up when you screw it up.

$131 bucks after shipping... not sure if I should jump on this deal or wait until next month. Not going to build my computer until the end of December anyway. Anyone want to push me one way or the other?

I'm using Pro2 and Duron 600. Just wonder if there is any sites devoted to Pro2 + Duron overclocking? Are you able to reach over 1GB? I can only reach 918mhz. I might be able to go higher if I update my BIOS (1.7 => 1.8v)

Thanks,

For folks who like Pro2, cbwnet.comhas it for $100 plus $15 shipping. Not bad. But you would probably be better off by going with the pro2-A. It is worthy $16 for a RAID card, isn't it?

Dcdomain.
I think you should pick it up now, if you build your pc in December. I can see there will be lots of delays on shipping, which you can control. And I don't see any price decline for a while for this board.
I ordered mine a week ago, it's coming next monday. Of course UPS Ground.

This is probably the most stable, most overclockable motherboard out there. The only reason that that most Anand articles don't mention it is because it didn't officially exist yet. I'm not sure if it exists now. That being said--I Love my Pro2. The next step up for me might be an MSI(I Love MSI) motherboard with DDR.

Condor Beedee: If you take a look at some of the other threads in the general hardware forum or the mobo forum, you'll see that there have been a lot of problems with that board. The top three boards seem to be this MSi one, the ASUS A7v and the Abit one. Listed in order of stability, the MSi is tops followed by the ASUS and then the ABIT...

bluesky: Thanks for the suggestion... I'll leave this question up for another day before deciding one way or the other. Thanks for bringing up the issue of shipping. Didn't consider that.

I just ordered this board from openlinx.com last week. There was a thread about it in the motherboards section, you should check it out if you're thinking about getting it. It convinced me to pick this one over the ASUS and Abit. From what I heard the Abit was more stable than the ASUS but everyone I've talked to agrees that this is more stable than both. As far as the most overclockable, I don't think so. I think there's something about the voltage that keeps it from being the most overclockable, I'm pretty sure Abit has that award already. I had a thread last week that was titled something like "Building first system could use advice", so search for building in the motherboards forum and you should find it. People gave me some good advice and I had a link in there that leads to the other forum about the Pro2-A. There's also a couple of new threads with people talking about their experiences. Here's one.

Here's another one

Here's mine which has a link to yet another.

This thread has a link to a vendor with it in stock and free shipping

HTH.

Did the Pro come with that engaging voice that told me to check my IDE cable and that I didn't have one of my memory chips properly seated

Got my Pro-2a yesterday (11-29). They shipped it real quick (ordered on 11-27 afternoon). The Mobo looks very nice. Not yet have time to test, but a causal check reveals that the much hated voice feature has already gone (I might be wrong, but I couldn't find the language jumper, and an add-in page to the manual changes that feature as "optional&quot. A minor but a welcome improvement.

BTW, read somewhere the on-board audio may not work. Any experiences and solutions? Thanks.

I really kinda liked the voice feature, it told me that I didn't have a memory chip seated correctly. And, without the ability to see the D-LED with the case closed it is the only way of getting feedback from the Smart Functions. However, this motherboard thoroughly over powered the case speaker. Rather then hooking up an old 6 X 9 to the case I put a resistor inline with the speaker which made the voice a little more tolerable.
