Definately a very good deal. I've used one of these monitors for over 6 months now and am very pleased with it.

That's a hot deal alright, but the max refresh rate on that monitor is a whopping 60Hz. That's guaranteed visible flicker. Enough to make anyone want to poke their own eyes out with a sharp stick.

I can't believe 60Hz is the *max* - maybe it's the max at 1280x1024. I'm not interested in running it that high. Can anyone find the real specs? www.kdsusa.com is down.

i don't know any new 17in monitor with max 60mhz refresh rate, maybe that's a misprint.

Max refresh as 1280x is 60; at 1024, it's an acceptable 85 hz.

<< Maximum Resolution : 1280 x 1024 @ 60 Hz
Optimal Resolution : 1024 x 768 @ 85 Hz
>>

Google Cache of Vs-77 specs:

(won't let me post the google cache link correctly; do search for vs-77 kds hz and it'll be the first link).

Yep, looks like you're right -- the google spec sheet cache wasn't hard to find, and it does claim decent rates below 1280x1024. If you don't mind running 1024x768 that monitor is a fantastic deal. Especially with free shipping since it probably weighs a ton. I might just have to pick one up.

I withdraw the comment about the stick.

picture quality at 1024 resolution is not something to brag about, i have one and i run it at 800 resolution and the picture is a lot clearer than 1024

I bought this very same monitor when it was on deal months ago at OD for $50 + tax after MIR. Believe it or not, this is my 7th one and I'm about to open the 6th replacement from KDS to see if it's all right. I want to say this right off. KDS has a fantastic warrantee with their products.

Anyway.. The problem that I'm having is discolorations and dark spots. One side of the screen will be blue, while the other will be brown. One monitor just had a dark area in the corner and after what I've been through with this and known that my replacements wouldn't have been any better, I would've kept that on. I don't mind a few defects, but these are distracting defects IMO. Every time I view a screen like the AT deals forum in the standard white and gray, I see it plain as day.

Problems aside, I don't think the text is very sharp at all and you can't run it above 800x600 and have it look half ways decent. The generic (rebadged Liteon) 17" monitor that I got with my work system blows it out of the water as far as text sharpness and overall picture. It doesn't matter with video cards either because I've tried both monitors on several video cards. Even video cards that display crisp text with a 21" FD Trinitron monitor.

I would have to say that this monitor is a deal at $50-$60 AR, but $79 AR? Hmmm.. I guess if the rebate were smaller (my rebate was for $10), it might be a deal, but that's a pretty hefty rebate at $50.

YMMV with the monitor.. I just wanted to let you know what sort of experience I had with mine.
