I would remove the little part after your testament for Adsgone if I were you.

Stealing software is not something to be proud of and certainly not something to brag about here.

The wierd thing is, it does not kill the legitimate popups (like filling out a survey etc.) except in very rare occurences.

Sometimes the best thing in life are free.

This one is pretty nice, but it has problems for me. I use IE6 on Win98se, both up to date. There are times when shift-clicking open a new window where the window will just freeze. I can right-click it's placeholder in the start bar to death and stutteringly get the page to display incrementally each time, but it never frees up. As soon as a give the 3-finger salute and kill Fs20 the window comes alive again.
I really like Shifthead.com's pop-up-stopper, another "ruthless" one that requires the ctrl key to even launch the browser, but the domain name is no longer registered, go figure. Wife hates it though, that's why I switched to FsMkII on the advice of a friend. Have to fiddle with some others and see if I can find something that doesn't act up.

I guess the world is just hopelessy devoted to Internet Explorer. That's really sad. Not only does it get a new security exploit every week, but it's lacking in both functionality and standards.

I guess people really are that afraid of change...even when it's for the better.

The Proxomitron is a tweak monkey's friend. If you know regular expressions, which are very easy to do. I mean, I learned them from microsoft! With it you can not only filter things out, you could even add your own content... Not having to wait for some other person to add it into some other program you have to run in the background along with the rest that have other options you want. Personally I added something that would stop marquees, and break mouse following, ie cellphoneshop.net or like on many crappy sites. I use it at work, and I don't need that stuff scrolling around on my screen bringing more attention to it )...

There are a few problems with it tho. I have gotten 0 popups since I installed it and have been using it for over a yera now. But some sites it does break, but I'm sure after some more tweaking, I can figure out what features are messing the sites up... If you are on a slow machine, a proxy filter server like this will likely really slow down your web broswing. At least this will give you a very good reason to upgrade...

I just downloaded and installed Mozilla and I love it already. The interface and features are great. I already made it my default.

Do you really want to completely disable WindowsUpdate from ever working again on your machine? Because that's what you'll get. You may not use it, but you still have to have it on your machine...

That is why MyIE2 is the ball$$, it uses IE and makes it more powerful and includes an anti-popup mechanism built in and allows

ALL IE plugins to be used.

Are you bragging that MyIE2 uses a product with weekly security exploits?

btw, I am looking for a system tray management / organizer software. I have essential software running on the background, thus too much icons on the lower right corner taking up too much space. Any one use those ?

WinXP got one of those build in, good stuff. Never bothered to look for a stand alone product.

jimmyhaha, http://www.mlin.net/TraySaver.shtml
TraySaver Beta10 -- it's very buggy though, please post if you have found an alternative program that can automatically hide icons in tray while still keeping them running...

InuYasha, yes Windows XP has it, but WIndows XP is soooo much sloooower than Windows Me/98 that it only makes sense having it on a dual boot system so that you can use it for progs requiring stability like Photoshop, etc, but for everyday stuff, Windows XP is noticably slower than Windows Me even on 3GHz or equivalent machines.

I'm trying mozilla right now and I have to manually disable pop-up for each new site under tools -> popup manager. Is there a way to stop pop up for EVERY site unless I want it for a particular site?

Don't throw anything yet. But, has anyone heard of KILLAFING? I've been using it for about a year and it seems to do a pretty fair job. Very rarely do I have to manually tell it block an ad or popup. It does cookies as well. That's my vote. Does it count?

Proxomitron = geeks choice.

- a great pop-up stopper out of the box

- and a powerful tool in the hands of anyone who wants to add their own routines into it (surprisingly easy to do).

I like how it kills the ads before they even download, so that you don't even waste time or bandwidth downloading the ads.

I use Ad Muncher. Sounds like it works the same was as proxomitron - at the port level. Even gets rid of annoying side ads.

Any of these popup stoppers use the same method Mozilla uses for stopping unwanted popups (disabling the javascript for unrequested new windows)? This is by far the most effective method, and still allows popups you initiate yourself.

I use Firebird/Mozilla and Ad Muncher. I'm really glad I heard about this... Firebird blocked popups, and Ad Muncher blocks banner ads.

I use Mozilla and Phoenix for most my browsing.

Keep IE kicking around because every once in a while I get some whacked behavior with the mozilla varients.

Besides the pop ups, the tabbed browsing rules.

I open ONE bookmark and BANG I have a 8 tabs with 8 deal sites opened all at once.

Keep on thinking MS is going to copy that and add pop up blocking to convert me back to IE, any idea why it has not happened yet?
