Hot laptop deal from tiger direct $799

I dunno whether the general appeal of tiger direct in AT is bad or good so if not dont flame me too bad. I got an email from these guys and they're selling this nice HP laptop for only $799. I dont normally toot my horn about these guys cause I never bought from em and to me their whole operation seems kinda janky. The Laptop is a refurb but it says:

I think if i know my computers well enough this is a mid to high end laptop and I think $799 is a hot price for what you get, then again its a refurb. I still havent made up my mind about it yet and if anyone wants to pony up their experiences or tell me right from wrong im ready and waiting cause i think im might buy this one.

What i think is more hillarious is the fact that you think there is a laptop out there with a 15 inch screen that weighs less than 7 lbs. for under $1400. With larger screen sizes comes buffer muscles.

every pos i've bought from tiger they have ripped me off on. from not getting rebates back (been, ohh, 12 months since I sent in the rebate for a 50-pack cdr's) to not honoring rebates (i got a letter in the mail a few months ago saying they 'discontinued' the rebate because supplies ran out. SUPPLIES!? WTF! they ran out of CASH?) to just getting a crappy product like this Ultra PC-133 memory I just got that flaked out left and right until I went through Ultra's crappy RMA proceedure.

they never ship on time, they sell crappy products, and never, NEVER buy no-name brands or refurbished goods from them. infact, stay safe and never buy anything from them. no matter how tempting it is, it's like a 112% guarantee you will be pissed off about buying anything through them.

My opinion isn't even based on Tigerdirect, but this deal stinks because the product is refurbished with a poor warranty. WAY overpriced for such a thing.

funny too, I got one of those "free" hp evo's and it weighs around 7lbs, guess I am a body builder

Hmmm, I don't know what happened with you guys but I've ordered quite a bit of stuff from Tigerdirect over the last 2 yrs and never once had a problem. Its also nice living so close to them, cause I get my stuff usually in less than 24hrs.

id also like to register a complain about tiger direct sucking. they sent me hardware that was in peices, and it wasnt damage that could have resulted from shipping. anyway...

2.4 celeron, 256 ram, 20 gig hard drive etc

Thanks for all the great "partially non flamming" feedback guys now I will definitely NOT order from these fools. I knew it seemed really shady from the get go and my better judgement doesnt always win the turf battle in my mind. Im gonna definitely check out the other laptop posted below it seems like a much better deal from a much more reputable dealer. Although the discussion is pretty much dead I think others should know about the other laptop deal.

I guess I can think of 2 ways to help TD re-establishes its reputation/goodwill:
1) File for BK and change corporate name; and 2) (my favorite) ship the items ordered and wait for the customer to authorize payment when he/she is satisfied.
