Yeah really. Unfortunately, you probably wind up spending more on walking money because everything is lot more expensive there... Still, this is a hot deal.

I find San Francisco more expensive than Tokyo.

Payment accepted by personal check only. No credit cards. Which means no buyer protection. I find this suspect.

If you go alone it's actually $1198 ($799 + $399 Single Supplement) Jan 1 - March 31 2004. You need to addd that Single supplement if you're going it alone

They have a link on their site for trip insurance with CSA Travel Protection (though they may be in league with each other) There are other insurance companies that will offer trip insurance in case the travel company goes bankrupt.
I would never plan a trip out of the country without it.

(but it is strange that they don't accept credit cards)

Good luck to whomever tries!

this is the response I got from them:

"Because this is such an amazing price, Singapore Air will not accept credit cards. Using a credit card costs them more money, and this is already outrageously cheap, so they are not willing to pay the credit cos the extra cost."

Yeah right. First of all, adjectives like "amazing" and "outrageous" usually = scam. Second of all, you're telling me SINGAPORE AIR won't accept a credit card? Suuuuure.

Sorry but IMHO this is total BS: credit card fees for large purchases are usually 2-3.5% adding $20-30 to this price. If the price is right no-one would come close even with CC charging sounds like a scam to me

If you can't use a CC, don't even bother. I find it hard to believe someone would actually send a check for that kind of money in the mail to comlpete strangers and no guarantee.

I've gone on something similar before. My total was $1100. $1000 for a week including hotel and all meals except for one dinner. However, it wasn't all in Tokyo, only 1 night there. The additional $100 was to go to Taiwan after and get a return trip from Taiwan to LA instead. So $799 might be a legit fare? Dunno.

That sounds good for LA->Japan->Taiwan->LA. Which travel agent did you go through to get that?

If you're into QUANTITY, it's hard to beat Cathay Pacific's All Asia Pass for US$999. It includes roundtrip Economy Class air transportation between New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, B.C. or Toronto and Hong Kong, plus 21 consecutive days of Economy Class travel to any or all of 17 other qualifying Asian cities.

You have to be part of Cathay Pacific's CyberTraveler program to get that price... but the membership IS free.

You can't qualify for airline miles. It's also JUST the plane ride, but a lot of Asia is pretty affordable if you eat and stay at local places.
