make sure the drive has the jumpers set on master and then set the drive as master of secondary IDE channel. My drive had the jumpers on slave when I got it and it would only burn coasters,

Yes, but did that person try upgrading the 451s to an 851S, or did he or she try upgrading the 451s to an 811s? If it was the later (451s to 811s) then perhaps that was the problem as it's said that the 451 and 851 use slightly different hardware than the 411 and 811. As far as I know this is the first time an 851S firmware has been made available for download from liteons website. Before this I don't believe any firmware was available for download for either the 451 or 851. The only firmwares available were 411/811 firmwares. So perhaps no one has had a chance yet to try flashing the 451 to an 851.

Of course, if it even is possible. It will likely involve more than simply flashing the 851 firmware into a 451. It may involve modifying the eeprom content and using Ltnflash, as modifying a 401 into a 411 did and it may be very risky to try and may not work at all. So, I'm defintely not recommending anyone should try this, but it's kinda interesting none the less.

My point was the liteon cdrw used same hardware but due to fw they had different speeds...I am wondering if the DVD burners will be the same...from a cost standpoint it makes no sense for the 4x drive to be different for liteon..more production costs...

I would bet no eeprom flashing would be needed..this was the case to go from 401S to $11S as you were changing burning formats not just speed

This is now 39.95 AR. There are 2 rebates nad if you can find a store selling it at $99.95 you're in. I returned the one aI bought yesterday to Tysons Corner and rebought it at $99.95 with 2 $30 rebates printing out. One circuit city and one from Lite-on

Union Sq., NY Rang up for $99.95 with 2 rebates totaling $60. AR price =$99.95-60=$39.95 +tax. There were about 10 left as of about 3:00 pm

nope. the ads have 99 AR, I tried eastridge and almaden both have 149 - 20 cc rebate - 30 mfr rebate.

Plus if you bought it on black friday which was 11/28. today sunday was your last day. tommorow would be 31 days.

If only they had good guys 60 day price guarantee.

I was thinking that if it did go on sale yesterday, then technically, I did see it at a lower advertised price within 30 days. Whether I had to PM within 30 days, that's up for debate. Anyways, I'll check out Newark.

As usual the clerks did not know about the double rebate.
Scored at Springfield, VA.
$70 for a 4X is not bad, $40 for a 4X is great.
Both rebates printed at the cash register.
Also - they have another model for $145 with rebates to bring it down to $99.
