Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced

Dell Home has the Logitech Harmony 880 Advanced Universal Remote for $180 - $90 code 84DD5C5KJ$RVLT [Exp 4/1] + $0 shipping = $90 shipped.

One of the best deals I've seen. Best price I've seen is $80 shipped amazon gold box, but it's a very rare occasion that it's that low.

If you get the coupon code and enter it in, it will still show up as $90 after coupon code. I guess they just added the "instant" discount as well.

The coupon code is 84DD5C5KJ$RVLT. No need to search somewhere else for it.

Oh, to my understanding, we weren't supposed to post coupon codes anymore

Thanks for the coupon allisolm and OP. Glad that I hold out til now since I was tempted to get that refurb deal for about the same price. Too bad the coupon will not work in addition of the 7% EPP coupon from my work. $96.96 for CA....

excuse my ignorance, but what exactly make these remotes that special? they can control multiple devices and come with a LCD, that much I can tell. I have asked this question earlier and never got a satisfying answer. Thanks!

well, they control just about everything that has an infrared remote with the push of one button without having to make your own macros. So, if you have a receiver, a cable box, a DVR, a dvd player and a tv you tell it one time through your computer what equipment you have and what items are used for which activities and then...

when you want to watch a DVD you push one button and it turns on the TV, turns on the DVD player, turns the TV to the correct video setting, sets the sound to be controlled by the receiver and sets anything else that has to be done. Then when you're done and you want to watch TV,you push one button and it turns the DVD player off, changes the video, allows you to change channels and volume, etc.

There may be other remotes that do all this but the Logitech ones are pretty user friendly and their tech support is outstanding.

I'm sure someone more technical minded can explain it better, but that's my take on it and I love mine.

Adding to the remarks from allisolm, the Harmony software is very appealing compared to other universal remotes I have used. The online database of equipment is extensive, and I have yet to find a device that isn't included. Instead of having the remote "learn" from other remotes, load your devices into the software and the buttons will be configured automatically. If you upgrade to a newer/nicer remote, all of your configurations are transferred to that remote as well.

Like any remote, there are channel up/down, volume up/down, forward, back, play, etc. You may have many pieces of equipment turned on at any one time that can perform these functions (tv/receiver/dvr). Through the software, you specify which component controls the channels, which component controls the volume, etc. You can use the remote to control your home theater as though it was one large piece of equipment. As an example, the volume is only controlled on the device you specify, no selecting the device then performing the action you need.

Hopefully this helps and doesn't make the remote seem more confusing. If so, here is the summary:
The remote is awesome and you should buy one!!

Yeah, I have some 5 port HDMI switch I got on ebay (I think it's the same one monoprice carries) and I wasn't hopeful, but it even had codes for that and handles switch timing properly.

Got a refurb last week from Logitech for $67 shipped. Came in pristine condition.

It's working out nicely and I'm glad I don't have to deal with 5 remotes anymore. It's surprising the amount of controls it can change for each device. Set up was pretty easy with a couple of false starts. Overall, a very nice remote, but not worth $90.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't have gone for it if I hadn't had a $50 coupon on top of the sale.

Does it replace MCE remote? I am building an HTPC with Antec Fusion Remote case. It would be perfect if it can replace the Antec remote as well.

It does... do something to the effect of: add a new device - computer - media center pc - Microsoft - Windows Media Center.

Also, keep in mind that the remote can always learn signals/buttons from any IR remote if needed.

Thanks. That pushed me over the fence. Going to pick one up.
