Yup, these are great, simple, and powerful speakers for those who don't want to deal with the hassle of 5.1 or 7.1 setups. The little control box is soooo useful for volume and muting and headphone input.

I have the z-2300. Perfect desktop speakers. For that price, this is HOT.

I would never spend more than $100 on desktop speakers. Such as Logitech z-5450...etc. For that price I can get real, proper loud speakers custom made with real veneer. This z-2300 is perfect imo if you can get it for less than $100.

I also own these. There are a very good buy for $80 (I think I paid $6x earlier this year, from buy.com, AR). They are good for music, not audiophile type great. Turn the bass almost all the way down unless you like the boom, boom.

One thing to remember is the subwoofer for these is relatively huge, make sure you have the space.

I know this may sound crazy, but can I just use my Z-640 (cheaper, smaller) subwoofer with these Z-2300 satellites just fine and safely? Reason is that subwoofer is much smaller and not as boomy/loud...

I don't know the answer, but I made the boom comment above so I thought I would respond. If you keep the bass turned down (1/3 position or lower on the wired remote) it sounds fine.

As to your question, the set ships as a whole, so I'm not sure what you would gain by switching bass units.

Im goig to wait until they reach 6x price too then. Im hoping they are going to have a sale at least by the end of the year. The speakers on my lcd monitor sounds like its comming out of a can.
