It is a Toshiba made for OEM drive. Mine was very noisy in the beginning, specially when preparing to burn. It seemed to quite down some now after a couple of days.

got it, it's a Toshiba drive. i also bought the 100-pack AZO DVD-R, but the drive won't recognize any one of them. what's the problem? the drive or the media? (100-pack AZO DVD-R only cost ~$31 shipped)

Mine's a Toshiba too. I flashed the drive with an RPC-1 firmware. It recognizes all my no-name DVD-Rs. The famous 1X stuff from shop4tech burns at 4X without trouble.

when it says not available in a particular area, it means ran out of stock, you need to call in a nearest officemax store to see if it has it. Hope this help.

I thought all of you should know this DEAL is DEAD. I just called officemax by phone to see if I could order from them directly. The lady told me that they were out of stock, they weren't gonna get anymore of them, and there's no substitutions for the product. So, if you hadn't gotten in on the deal earlier, you're SOL.

which rpc1 firmware did you use? the one off rpc1.org?

hey, thx for your thoughtful input. i did return the drive tho, got the 8x one instead.

the 8x is a NEC drive, much quieter than the Toshiba. it recognize the AZO 4X media, but failed to burn at Lead In stage. trying to fix stuff now...
