nero allows me to burn at 1x,2x,4x but when i tried burning at 2x twice it takes ~1 hour, which is 1x speeds. heh.

Got mine in on Friday, flashed it to 1033... I have not had any issues yet with cd burnings, need to pickup some DVD media... I checked CDMedia website, the best results with this drive is obtained using Ritek G04 media... so, I am waiting on some of it to arrive.

If that's the H2H firmware, that's the one I used as well...works fine, and highly recommended.

Some additional info:

1. If your drive label doesn't say Rev. B (i.e. no revision printed on label), then it's a Rev. A drive.

2. Toshiba's 1033 Windows firmware patcher contains firmware for BOTH Rev. A and B.

The rebate used to be there and now its gone. I'd call and chew someone's ass out! The promo is supposed to be good till 9/30/2004.

Out of the three drives that I got two were unable to write to 3 out of the 4 brands of media that I checked it out with. After flashing the firmware it got worse and after a couple of re-boots my computer can no longer even ID the drives. I returned one of the bad ones to OM and I'm going to RMA the other one because I really need it. These drives are extremelly spotty in quality and it's no wonder why mad dog is selling them for so little AR. Anyone remember the crappy GF4 440MX mad dog video card from CompUSA a while ago? I do not think I'm going to trust the mad dog anymore... :evil:

Mine would say it was burning at 4x with Nero and a low quality disk, but it took 1 hr. to burn. So I decided it was really burning at 1x.

I flashed it with the H2H integrated into the 1033 firmware and it failed a burn right away with the crap media(the ones from the huge thread here) at 4x. It then burned fine at 4x with a Princo 4x disk. So I'd say these drives could be picky about the media it likes.

You can define the max speed with Nero, but the drive will determine the actual speed based on its internal media list.
Once you've flashed the drive so that it burns unknown discs at 4x instead of 1x, you'll have to limit the speed on your own in Nero to one that will work with the disc.
