Anyone in Va, don't bother calling alexandria. The system shows 3, but 2 are damaged and 1 is missing.

Jack159, no, the $27.50 40G drives I got were internal ones. Not a fantastic price, but I needed some extra drives.

I saw someone say this only had a one year drive. The drive that came with mine had the following information on it:
Mfg date 17APR2002
WAR.END.JUL05.
Model # 4G120J6

I called Maxtor to verify and it is correct.

I believe it was the fields ertal store. I am not that great with locations, but it was in Mason. I drove up after work from downtown. A little bit of a drive but I am glad I did now. The other stores on your list were out.

Paths,

I'm not sure where you got one, but the following is a list of Cincy stores that DO NOT have any:

Beechmont
Reading Rd. (Downtown)
Glenway
Florence
Kenwood

If you got one in this city it was at:

TriCounty
Fields Ertel
Hamilton
Colerain

These are all entirely too far away for an Eastsider to drive.....anyhow, I have several WD 120 gb drives still in the box from a PM/Amex BVG deal for ~60.00...and USB 2.0 cases are at Compgeeks for $39.99 (I have a few of these Andara cases, cheap construction but they work!!!). So for a few bucks more...a person could make there own.

For eveyone asking about the various uses for these...I play games, watch mpgs and do anything I would off of an internal drive (except OS, boot) using an external one. Using USB 2.0!!!!

The Reading Road and Glenway stores claim to have sold the last that they had early on 11/4...I was there @ 10:30 a.m. Were you at one of these earlier? I discovered that the inventory only seems to update every 24 hours as I was told that they had them, when I arrived there were none. PM me if you know where any are....I am mobile at work and can go anywhere in the city (I have been off the last 2 days).

I don't have the skus, but there were at least 2 different type of internal 40G so there should be more than one sku.

You might have better luck doing so in the "For Sale/Trade" forum here at AnAndtech. Just read the FAQ if you have not done so.

Good Luck !!

If you're in store you should see em clearly locked up in glass with all the other hard drives. It doesnt hurt to ask them to check, but usually its on display if they have it.

happy hunting....

This question was alreay answered. Its a regualr hard drive!!!!!!!!!! Formated regularly (is that a word?)!!!

The only reason it is usb is becase the Printed Circuit Board on the back acts as a converter. It basically has a ide port on the one side where the HD is plugged in and then ports out to usb.

This may be a stupid question, but does anyone know how to get this external drive to show up under DOS (i.e. Windows98 or ME boot disk?) I'd love to use this drive for Ghost images. I'd imagine it would have to be a DOS USB driver?

[EDIT] - Nevermind, answered my own question. I haven't tried it yet, but if anyone else is interested give this page a look:

Look at the ends of the red panels. On one side of each one there is a little space where the panal and case meet. You cant miss it. You can stick a flat head in these spaces and in a lever like motion pop that side of. The panel will then just come off.
