Staples has a 120GB 5400 RPM External Maxtor hard drive on clearance for $97.50. (Price effective Halloween night) It only has a 2MB cache though, but for <$100 how can you go wrong. The only store in the DFW area I know that has any left as of now is the Allen store off McDermott. This should be a nationwide price. SKU is 486982 The 40 or the 80GB externals were still $179.99 so this seems to be a pretty hot deal. Good luck!

It is USB 1.1 compatible, and includes a 6 ft USB cable, external power adapter, installation cd, the hd/external closure itself. Works on 98SE/ME/2K/XP

NOTE: Apparently the $30 off $100 coupon is an online coupon only and the $20 off $100 printable coupon expired already. YMMV on the coupon itself - some stores may/may not take it.

Now with a $20 mail in rebate!!!!!!! **Thanks onerigger and Jack159!!!!!**

RebatesHQ rebate

NOTE2: Several members in this thread have reported you can take the hard drive out of the enclosure and use it as a regular internal drive. It might be more beneficial to some to put in a smaller drive and use it as a backup and have the 120 in your computer.

At that size, no. It's external anyway so I think speed is limited by USB anyway (not as big of an issue with 2.0 as it is 1.1)

Plus, don't forget to head over to FW and look for some printable coupons! Find a $20 off $100 purchase and pick up a box of paper clips to get this deal for only $80.00. Now, we're talkin'

just got mine, i got it for $97 - $30 off $100 coupon... I went right before they were closing, so they were in a hurry to get out, any time they spent in there was a waste of their personal time, they quickly took my coupon code and my total was $73 with tax

this is a sick deal so far.. $30 off 100 coupon is great by itself but this drive at $97 is sick.. 77 \ 120 gb = .55 cents a gb with no rebate.. insane

I went and they didn't have any at my local Staples. Do you have to ask about clarances at Staples or were the drives just stting on some clarance table? Also how did you use a coupon? Does it have to be physical coupon or can you just tell them the 5 digit number?

Thanks

Nice deal!

as soon as I read the post I rushed to Staples and bought two of them and thanks to certain website I was able to apply 2 $20 off $100 coupons by purchasing them separately. The shelf price was around $270.. so I asked an employee to rescan the price to double check and sure enough.. it came out to be $97 then bought something $3 and applied the $20 off $100 total came out to be around $88 after tax!!

Thanks RagingBITCH!!!

The sku # is in the first post and I tried calling but they didn't see the number or couldn't look it up manually. So I guess the best way is to call our local stores.

...They are also discontinuing Maxtor 40 gig 5400 rpm internal drives. I picked up 2 of them for $59.26 out the door. ($27.50 ea. + tax) I forget the SKU #, but they listed for $99 originally. Be sure to have them scan it, because the price will come up different than marked. (In Southern California, anyway)

Dude, according to the Staples website there is a $30 rebate on those 40GB 5400RPM External USB2 drives. I don't know if this is the *EXACT* model you got but check it out here.

Doh, I should have read, rather than assumed. He said internal drive... just assumed external USB since that is what this tread was about.

Yeah, missed that internal part... since the original post was about a 120GB External drive I guess I assumed, rather than actually reading, it was an external.

Scored one (seemed to be the last on the shelf). Price reduction on the tab showed 279.00 I think. Had her verify at the register and it was 97.50

Going to see if its possible to throw the drive in my showstopper and replace with a spare 80 gig I have.

Thanks R.B.
