You sound surprised. Remember, this is Microsoft we are talking about, even their forms are buggy!! I had the same problem yes, 2 extra boxes...

maybe the intellimouse optical / explorer / other optical mice that microsoft sells has a product id that requires the 2 additional spaces.. though my intellimouse optical product id does have 2 less than the form.

My Intellimouse Optical and Explorer only have 20 charaters for the Product ID number. Its most likely a mistake on the paper. There seems to be only 20 numbers on the PID of the Optical and Explorer.

mods, I ask that you delete this thread. Microsoft will catch on that the number has been placed on this site, and know that people are scamming them and will change their policy. If people truly need a replacement part let them search the microsoft website for the right numbers. I just don't want a few abusers to ruin it for those that truly need replacements.

this is great, I actually have two of these things that don't work (one doesnt come on, the other, you can't left click)
I got a new intellimouse explorer wireless, so I hadn't even thought about getting replacements for the old intellimouse explorers.
I called, gave them the part number (curiously, NOT the product IDs which are unique, but the part number which is the same for identical model mice) and they said i should have a replacement shortly...

Thanks!

mrMaC, I did PM the mods this morning and they did respond to me. You might want to shoot them another PM to delete this thread.

I had a weird intermittent operation on my Explorer mouse, and in my case, it was a factory defect without a doubt- they actually left two pins on the PCB unsoldered, and the contacts were just resting on the trace. Maybe they ran out of solder at the time..
"Free" mouse notwithstanding, I fixed it myself, and it's been working perfectly ever since.

Yeah, Microsoft's hardware support is top-knotch. I had a old Sidewinder 3D Pro that went bad, so I called it in. All I had to give them was the serial number off of the bottom of my controller, and they mailed me a new one. Since they didn't want the old controller back, I gave it to my Dad. He was able to fix it, so now I have two controllers.

What did you tell them the problem was? The intermittant thing or something else?

Also, in reference to the guy asking to lock this, there is no "replacement parts" for mice. I know what you are saying, but I don't agree. They track the stuff by the PID on your mice, so its kinda hard to scam them into sending you 5 new mice or something. I fully support ONLY calling this number if you DO have a real problem, I had a real problem with my mouse wheel being stuck (I even opened it up and manually cleaned the wheel, that fixed it for like a week before it was sticking again), and I called them and got it replaced. I doubt that the "AT effect" will kill this off, after all, people actually have to have bought something in the past. Its not like those free offers and surveys that get taken down within a day. MS actually has the revenue from the people buying the mouse in the past.
If you bought the mouse and you have a problem, call them. Otherwise don't, its that simple. MS makes it easy for people to get the hardware problems fixed. They can track who is still in warranty, and this particular offer applies to out of warranty mice for only 90 days. Plus they have stuff about lifetime warranty on the mouse (at least with intellimouse explorer), you can't tell me that the mouse will last beyond a couple/few years with hard use. They have to be expecting to replace many mice in total. There's so many people who own them, and I'm sure a number will report problems ove the lifetime of having/using the mouse.

Anyway just my 2 cents.

I had the same problem, but my sidewinder 3d pro was long out of warranty. Plus the old model, which was the ONLY one I liked (I tried the new model and its nasty, the newer model hurts my hand after extended gaming sessions), doesn't work with the newer computers (anything over like 66mhz or maybe it was 100mhz bus speed if I remember correctly). So I ended up with a thrustmaster. Thats too bad, because that sidewinder 3d pro was my favorite. I have 2 or 3 of them.

I don't think this thread should be deleted (of course I started it),
look at all the people who didn't know they could get their mouse replaced when it was broken!
I'd say it's a Hot deal to save you money, by not having to buy a new one!

Didn't know my first Hot Deal would be so controversial!

I've seen this "Hot Deal" before on this site. I did take advantage
of it once to get a replacement mouse.

Lets not try to abuse this.

I have replaced a couple wireless mice and also an intellimouse explorer without sending in anything. There was a number I called on their site and just told them the problems I had with my mice and the serial #'s. 4 days later, I receive a package from them.

well, when i logged in to check my order status, it says theres only one on its way to me...

I called, and the woman said that without dated sales receipts for both mice, I cannot receieve more than one replacement. Also, she said the product IDs were not necessary or even useful. (as stated in my above post, the first woman i spoke too only asked for the product numbers, and when they were the same was concerned but agreed to send two... I guess she didnt do it right)

I guess I am happy to get one replacement, but since I have two that are legitimate paperweights, I am a bit disappointed.

I posted on this last week. Despite what was said about this being around for months, MS sent a mailing out recently to all registered mouse owners, which is new.

Moderators - what happened to my post - it seems to be gone? And what is the big deal here about reposts? Why is it bad to repost a truly hot deal that may be buried 10 pages deep, but OK for "Jumpondeals" to post 400 different lame-o Amazon deals for cheap steak knives?

Called today..lady asked me for the part # (X0...) and my mailing address.
Seems they are backed up and would ship in 1 to 2 weeks.

Finally got around to calling mine in.
The lady told me I had to mail my request in...
I said:
"Isn't this the product replacement phone number?"
She said:
"Yes it is, but you need to mail the information in if you want that deal."
I said:
"Isn't this the number I would call to get my mouse replaced?"
She said:
"Well, yes..."
I said:
"Then why are you telling me I have to mail the information in?"
She said:
"To get the replacement through that program, you must mail in the info..."
I said:
"I want to get it replaced through your system."
She said:
"Oh... well... ok, please read me the product number on the bottom of the mouse.... etc."

And it is on backorder currently. But at least I'll have a mouse that doesn't crash programs.

FYI
this replacement deal works for MS keyboards as well...
good luck to you all
your best bet is to call the 1800 number and talk to the CSR
to get your replacement.

This is the bigest scam since the Kodak DC 4800. I don't know why the mods haven't locked it! If MS stops the easy replacement policy it will be falt of this thread and all the others on similar forums.
