This was very very simple to do for me. I called them up got some Habib speaking guy gave him a number off the bottom of the mouse and my address and then boom, 4 days later I had my mouse.

:Q That was easy. Just got a used MS Wireless Explorer from the board. It was in decent condition, but the laser kind of flashed intermittently. I could tell it was abnormal, because my Intellimouse Optical doesn't do it.

Called up, gave them the part # and my address, and should have the new one in 7-10. Easy as pie!

Finally had mine shipped out today. sent the form in the day of the original post. Now I just have to hope my wife keeps a lookout for it as I leave to go TDY Monday. Which is like open shopping season for her!

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer buried in the pages about shipping

How tight is mircosoft.. wow i would never think i would say that but, mirco$oft is really good at customer relations. my old intellimouse went bad on me and i just went to support.microosoft.com and clicked a few links, filled out a hardware problem from and with in the day i got a response back wondering about my problems. send back the reply and my new intellimouse was already in the mail. i also had a sidewinder dual strike game pad that was broken. after i got my mouse i decided to see what i could do about the game pad. i told them what was wrong and they said they didn't make those models anymore so i asked for a gamevoice unit and presto, it came within the week. free is good, even better when its from mircosoft. oh yea, they don't want u to return bad product, it would just cost them more to find out what the problem is.

Is this normal? I just want to make sure I get my replacement product.

Yeah, they only need your Product #.

I had the same problem with the optical trackball mouse(stopped moving problem). The lady at MS took the info(serial number), over the phone and sent a new replacement out immediately. She said that there was a 5 year warranty on it.
I am thinking that all of their optical units might be problem prone.

I called MS last week, and gave them my mouse product ID. He didn't ask for the full serial number. Funny thing was I gave him the ID of my 2 button optical mouse, and they sent me a intellimouse explorer 3.0 a few days later.

I mailed off the form on mine a few weeks ago, and this past Saturday, I got a brand new Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. The thing is, I don't like the different shape of the 2.0/3.0 model compared to the original model that I own. It's not nearly as comfortable, and feels cheap.

Edit: I just wanted to clarify that I'm not complaining, still a hot deal, and I'm glad that I did get a replacement for a somewhat flaky mouse. If only I could get one just like the one I own.

I just talked with some guy at MS that told me I needed to photocopy the bottom of my mice and send the copy in as proof of purchase. I told them that I had already scanned them in and sent that in as proof of purchase. He went on to tell me that they do not accept scans but only copies and they can tell the difference between the two by looking at the paper it is on. So I guess I'll do the run around and scan these things at work tomorrow.

thats good to hear wooddogg...it seems they are getting a little testy with all the claims...they have to be wondering whether they are all legit or not....

they can tell by the paper that its on, thats bullshiz, there's no way they can tell. you could use the same paper in your scanner as you do in your copy machine and there's no way you can tell, they're both copies basically, BULLSHIZ, don't listen to them

LOL! Yeah, you can't tell the type of paper!

That's like when I went to staples, and did a PM and coupon on a product with a rebate, and the manager told me "If we price match this you can't use the rebate."

and I said "Ok, I just don't like waiting for the rebate."

so the manager threw away the rebate form that printed out.

then I went home and printed out the rebate form from the website and mailed it off.

I sent in my form like 2 weeks ago and no response or email. Before I even sent in my form I tried calling and they would not let me replace it over the phone like they did for u guys. I was pissed! So I did it the long way. Well today after reading you guys calling it in again and getting new ones I too called again. Well they indeed filled my order and I have a mouse 3.0 heading my way. Cant wait to get it! WOnder if I will get lucky and end up getting 2 shipped to me??

I'm trying to get a wireless Intellimouse Explorer; will they replace this if it breaks under the same replacement plan? Anybody know?

MS OEM - you paid half price of the same retail product, and it could probably be a bootleg one, don't think MS is that stupid enough to give you a replacement.

Any retail MS product in the US - Just call them and read the product id, no need to do it typical RMA way.
Basic mouse (wheel mouse optical) has 3 years warranty, better one (intellimouse optical) has 5 years, the best (intellimouse explorer) has lifetime.

You don't need to do it thru this replacement offer.

Man....this is awesome. Just called in...all they asked was the part number, and my address. And I'm getting a replacement for my recently faulty intellimouse no questions asked! Its a good thing too...just a couple days ago, my mouse started to act irradically and would stop working at random times. Maybe this is setup because the old mouses have a high failure rate? I bow down to Bill Gates.

Gosh $#%^$@!! I had one of those mouse die on me a few months back. I called Microsoft anyway, and gave it a try. I was told that I need to get the form to send in and then send in either the numbers off the box, or the number from the mouse.

Great.

Problem is, who the heck keeps a "dead" mouse lying around for almost 2/3 of a year? That darn mouse was tossed out long ago, and the box too!! How am i supposed to give them the numbers they need when they're most likely at the bottom of a landfill somewhere?!

Darn. Too bad this thread wasn't around back then.

I just wanted to thank the original poster, plus whoever found that phone number. I called on 7/18, it got shipped 7/19, and I just got it today (7/26). It came USPS Media Mail, from Grove City, Ohio, and when I opened the package, the mouse was in its retail box. Very nice! So, the Cyberwings questionaire is up, I got my replacement mouse...things are lookin' up...

toadstool,
why do you keep a dead mouse?
if it's MS mouse, just call MS immediately, and you can see the product id (= serial number) on the bottom of the mouse, you don't need to dig out the box from underground to get the UPC.
