Just did this also. Suprise it went so easy. New respect for MS. Wish I still had the 3 that I threw away after beating them because they would not track properly hehe. Thanks

dp004i,
Read back a few pages, that arguement already happened. It's a Hot deal if you have a broken mouse. Most companies don't take care of their broken hardware like this. Also, a lot of people might have a broken mouse, and not even realize it. Such as, maybe someones mouse keeps locking up, but they think it's their computer or something, when all they'd have to do is get their mouse replaced for free. The invitation was already sent out be microsoft, don't get mad just because I posted the invitation I received.

I just called the number and spoke to a CSR and after giving my P/N, type of mouse, problem with mouse, where and when purchased, they checked their files and my P/N (X04 - *****) and it came up. Apparently the intellimouse is a "popular" mouse and it's been back-ordered till October 17!!!! Dizaaaaamn. I went ahead and did it. I had an older version which wasn't working well and now they're sending me the newest version.

Yes it will work for the intellimouse Explorer V3. Its the newest one and you should be able to get a new one if your old one is acting up.

And my mouse is acting wrong. the light continoulsy goes off and i have to unlug it from the USB and replug it in to get it working again.

I think M$ caught on to this one. I actually got the original letter and sent in my info as requested and got a letter back saying my S/N wasn't one of the defective mice but if I was having problems and wanted to send in my old mouse they would replace it. Oh well.

Logitech mice usually have a 5 year warranty - no questions asked.

Call them and give them the serial number and your address and they will send you a new one. They told me just to destroy the old one...

Good Deal YMMV though

I did this closer to when post was first put out, and I finally got a letter back from Microsoft saying that my mouse does not apply but if I want I can send it back to them and they will replace it for me. I have the 5 button optical intelle mouse. Not sure versions. I am going to try and call customer service and see if it will work that way. (I just printed out form and sent it in before)

I got the same letter for both of my mice. I think Microsoft has caught on and is basically denying everyone who sends in the forms now. Be sure to let us know how calling Customer Service works out.

I just called the number and was able to get a replacement for my mouse.

I have an Explorer (5 button optical) that I bought in May 2000. They are sending me a new one, but its back-ordered until Oct!!!! The only info they asked for was the PIN on the bottom, that bit that starts with an X.

I think for certain models and/or time frames they are not doing this anymore. But mine they are replacing.

I sent the form in on 8/14 and called today to check the status. The ID number of my mouse did not fall into the batch number of the affected ones. The CSR told me there was another way to replace my mouse and had me use the supplemental and replacement parts ordering queue (800-360-7561 choice #3). I told the new person up front that I don't have a receipt and had probably used this mouse for two years. He said the ID number served as the receipt and that it was in the warranty period.

The model I have is a plain Intellimouse IntelliEye, which they no longer make. They are replacing it with the Intellimouse Explorer and said it was backordered, but should ship in 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for posting this offer---my mouse has been hanging up for a long time, but I thought it was a Windows98 problem.

Both CSRs I spoke with were very nice.

Thank You for this post. My mouse always sticks and crap, I called the phone number and they gladly replaced the mouse although they said it was "backordered" (Damn you Anandtech! ). Also, you don't need a proof of purchase or anything when you call them, all you need is your mouse, just read off a number sequence thats on the bottom of your mouse and they will replace it as long as you tell them what's wrong with it.

Thanks again

Hey Guys, I just called MS and got em to replace my intellimouse explorer ver. 1 with a brand new ver. 3 one. It was
very easy to do and they told me they had them in stock, and they would ship to me in 3-10 days.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that I had an original Intellimouse Explorer, and it lost power (the cord was broken or something). I called MS, and they shipped me a new one...easy as that...well, kinda. They were out of stock of the mice and said it would a 4-6 weeks. The mouse shipped a week later.

Okay...that was boring... here's the cool part. Since you don't have to ship the old mouse back, I opened it up, cut the cord, stripped the wires, etc. and soldered it back together. Works perfectly. So, I basically got a new mouse for free! Well, the first was a gift, so it was free too, but that's beside the point... Anyway, as much as we all dislike Microsoft's software practices, their hardware replacement program is first rate. I wonder if my new mouse will break...then I'll get a third!
