After digging through my comptuer junk, found my original MS IntelliMouse Explorer , called # but my P/N wasnt on there system :-( so i faxed them a photocopy under the mouse.. it was to dark...

-edit called again, worked fine. guess the CSR might have heard the #s wrong. The v3 is on backorder.

Did anyone else notice the replacement mouse is junk? Mine was a really old one, would have never bought one if they were like this. It's 1/2 the size of the old one. This is crap.

Just call long distance one of the support numbers for MS products listed on the MS web page. Tell them you want to talk to someone about the MS explorer warranty. They will assign you a case number and forward you to the appropriate people. Just tell them what the problem is (the one I did was a sticky wheel, the one my brother did just a few weeks ago was intermittantly every 20 seconds stopped working, probably a broken/loose wire).

Are you talking about the version 3 they send out now, versus the version one you had? YES it is smaller. But let me tell you, I like it much better. Try it a little while first, it takes a few days to get used to it but I do like it much better. And yes, I have big hands, these massive mitts, and I like the new version 3 better. Both because it fits the hand better, and because it has a much higher scan rate. The old version 1 would sometimes get confused if I moved it rapidly (very rapidly) across the whole mouse pad. The new one doesn't and seems to track a bit better. I play tons of games and lots of counter strike and I like the new version 3 one much better than the old one.

Anyway just my two cents. If you REALLY MUST have the old one, well they dont ask you to send it back.

Heck, I'll sell one of my old ones to you if you REALLY REALLY want. One of them that had the sticky scroll wheel, well it works now, its not sticking anymore, I've used it a couple times when I was putting together a computer for someone as a temp mouse.

You probably want a new one though, heheh if you insist on version one, check on ebay I'm sure you can find it on there.

I just got my replacement mouse last night. I got the intellimouse optical replaced.

I had sent in the form originally, but recieved a litter back saying that my mouse was not on the list, so I called back and after giving them the sericla number and the part number they said they would send one out to me, free of charge.

Sweet!!

I feel bad. I so want to get mine replaced, but there's really nothing wrong with it. Last year it wouldn't turn on when the computer powered on, so I would have to reboot, and unplug - replug it back in to get it to work but that stopped a while ago.

Plus, it's a demo mouse! I worked at an Office Depot that was closing a few years ago and I grabbed the demo (working) MS optical mouse. It's worked great (except for that booting problem) since then. But, I mean wow - a NEW one. I'm thinking about getting the Logitech Optical Freedom Pro or the new MS Optical Desktop soon anyways, but a new mouse never hurt anyone.

Maybe I'll try this tommorrow. anyone know if it works in Canada?

Cheers,
irate.

ok i think the explorer 3.0 i got for my explorer 2.0 is defective. either that or the quality of the units has gone down! the big problem here is that the back button is loose as hell it is really sloppy. is this how all 3.0's are can i get this swapped or am i stuck? do these replacments have a warrantee?

If my dad can get a free mouse, anyone can. Just follow the instructions in the first post. We got our mouse in a little over a week.

Only if you send it in first....
I got a letter from MicKey$oft, stating that only "certain versions" of Intellimouse explorer3 are covered under this "warranty" or whatever they called it.
It stated in the letter, if I am having problems, send it to them, and they will send a new one back, in about 8-10 weeks.
Um, no

So dont follow the procedure in the letter. Strangely enough, its HARDER to get the mice replaced that way, more hoops to jump through.

I've done this twice, when both mice experianced differant difficulties. Very easy. Call up the long distance MS support number (405- something I think) thats on the Ms webpage. Tell them you have a mouse that's having difficulties. The operator will assign you a case number and transfer you. Tell the next guy the same thing, he will ask a few questions like whats wrong, and the serial number on the bottom of the mouse, your name/address/phone then ship you out one right away. Keep in mind that the reason this works is because the MS intelimouse explorer version 1 has a LIFETIME WARRANTY. Only the explorers (5 button ones), the optical's do NOT. I think the version 3 ones also have the same lifetime warranty. All you are doing is getting a warranty replacement. Its more difficult to go through that letter thingy with the batch of defective ones. Just get a regular warranty replacement.

Wow, called them. What a nice guy I talked to. He set me up right away, told me what he told all of you - that there is a backorder, yada yada yada. Excellent.

Well, I hope mine that just died is on the list of those covered. Symptoms are exactly as described on the web page (cursor no movie). Buttons still work, but that's a little limiting.

I'm going to give the form a try and see what happens. Thanks for posting this (whichever way it works out)!

I just ordered my new optic mouse today. The guy was real nice and had a cool sounding accent like he was from India (Does Microsoft have any call centers in India?). There was no problem. Total time of the call: 7 minutes.

My keyboard is acting kinda strange here and there but I think it's just dirty so I'll try cleaning it first.

Thanks,
Finally got around to getting a replacement for the broken one I have. I have 5 of these and like all of them, but a couple are glitchy, so replacement time.
