Thanks again Xidus
Or at least my wife thanks you. The arm works perfectly as a holder for her Compaq 1800T laptop. I clamped the arm to our cheap family room coffee table, it has a decent reach so now her laptop hovers over instead of heats up her lap. When she is done she just swings the laptop out of the way, instead of precariously balancing it on the arm of her "wing" chair and dumping it every once in a while.
Tried to pick up another today and found out the instant rebate expired.
Re: Rotating.
Yeah the picture on the box makes it looks like it rotates, AND there is a piece of teflon separting the base from the arm that sure does look like it is designed for frictionless rotating. I guess if you had a heavy monitor rotating at a wierd angle it might put a bad torque on the system that the arm isn't made for, but for her eight pound laptop I think we'll risk it. That screw on the bottom sure was in tight but if you have a large oversized screwdriver it can be loosened with a little effort.
If you get the monitor-stand/keyboard holder, don't miss the two thin black adhesive strips in the bottom of the box made to be stick on to the bottom of keyboard holder protecting any surface (like my cheap coffee table) you set it on.
Can't believe how much I like the keyboard holder/stand too. I normaly just slide the keyboard under the couch but this is a lot nicer. Also the extra two or three inches puts the monitor exactly at eye level as I slouch on the couch.
Wow, I just figured out a use for those fake black tubes that are trying to look like heavy duty springs: They'll do a swell job hiding her ethernet and power cables...........
Doh. If that keyboard holder/stand was just a 1/4" taller it would fit my $19 Visioneer 8100/staples scanner; I guess that will just have to stay under the couch.....
