you guys bitching about non-retail people stealing this are pathetic.

most of you are the same people who stack coupon codes off websites, take advantage of pricing errors or "valueamerica dollar" like promotions that aren't supposed to give 300 dollars worth of credit for buying 10 bucks worth of crap. Price Matching books that were supposed to be sent back but because a manager isn't doing his job, your gonna take the damn books at .01 cents a piece, regardless of what he is telling you.

If the coupon codes weren't mailed directly to your house or email address then your stealing from the company by using them. If you buy 10 bucks worth of crap but exploit a bug in the promotion of a website and get 300 dollars worth of value dollars, your stealing from them.

Now, all of a sudden the webserver is so slow, you can't get in on a deal that you were too slow to react to, and/or you have to go to work because its the busiest time of the year in a profession that you chose to work in and you don't have time to hit F5 all damn day, and you suddenly grow a sense of Morality and accuse everyone else of stealing from you and microsoft.

Give me a frickin break.

If this was only open to non-retail people, your gonna tell me that you wouldn't get in on it because you work at a retail store.
You'd be jumping on it like everyone else is.

The rules are "you win some and you lose some", and unfortunately the timing is bad so your losing and you don't like it so your gonna cry and make a stink and ruin it for everyone who did get in on it.

When you think about it, microsoft is giving this software the us for a reason. I can't think of how many times at work I've someone has asked me what I use. If I'm on WinXP or Playing Age of Empires, microsoft just made another sale for giving me a cd that cost them more to ship than produce. They should be paying us to take the stuff.

---

I just got through as well, took me 4 hours of doing other stuff in the process. Do yourself a favor, and when you do get to the quiz, use the back button to make sure you get the right answers.

As for all my fellow retail slaves, keep your heads up. You'll get this deal dispite having to fight with non-retail employees, you'll just have to work at it. The best deals don't come easy.

To all the non-retail employees, I say by all means give it a shot, but microsoft probably will look into your status as an employee eventually. If you do get the package, congratulations, but remember to share the wealth next time.

And one more thing, next time you call to bitch and moan and be rude to a store employee or manager thinking that you can treat us like sh!t to save a lousy $10, remember that we're the only reason you're getting this software for free. On the clock we have to be nice to you, but if you're an a$$hole to me in my store, you'd better hope I don't find out where you work.

there not offering it to YOU, they are offering it to all retail sales people.

For the record, I work retail part time at Office Dep*t atnight, so it applies to me anyway.

But I don't care who else gets in on it.....

If you do, congratulations. If you don't, like i said, you win some, you lose some.

Did someone insult your mother or soemthing commOdog? Settle down, have some dip. This will take more work now that its slow, but I know that even if MS verifies whether ppl are actually employees or not I will get it as a valid employee. Lets all relax, relish in the fact that the Bears are in the playoffs, and enjoy our free MS stuff when it comes

first off, i doubt anyone would know about any of this sh*t from MS if I hadn't started a thread over at [ H ]ard about the WinXP, so screw saying that you got it just because of AnandTech. As for those of you who actually work for a retail place and are bitching, get over it. I used to work at Office Max and I never knew about any of this sh*t, not all managers make sure you know about it and not all stores give a damn. I work at CompUSA now and found out from a fellow employee who was told by the MS rep.

I let the cat out of the bag for 2 reasons. 1) so that retial/qualified people who didn't know about this promotion can get it. You can't tell me that everyone that is qualified by the MS standards will know about this being available. 2) So that people that wanted to take the chance can sign up for and recieve WinXP. As previously stated, you are already stealing from these companies by taking stuff like this that you're not supposed to be doing. Taking all of this free stuff, and using multiple coupon codes, etc. is what makes prices on stuff stay high. The same applies to taking free samples of a product from a company that you never intend to purchase anything from. Of couse they like to have you on the mailing list, but why should they be wasting thier money on you when all you do is steal from them.

The MS website isn't the only one for retail employees to get free stuff. A lot of companies have this program in place. I know for a fact where to go for HP, Epson, Symantech, & Logitech for thier own sites, and another one which has almost 20 companies that have freebies and contests. Creative Labs has Retail Employee discounts in which you get the sound cards at 40% (roughly) off, somtimes more. Of course all of these retail employees here that are bitching know about all of these, so I won't need to post links to them. I wouldn't want to upset anyones feelings because they can't get something they just found out about.

BTW, most of these companies do check if you work where you do. I know that MS will do random checks, though it appears that they didn't do it for this promotion. They also give out some prizes where they mail what you win to where you put down as your place of employment. Wouldn't that be fun to call to check on it and they tell you that you don't work where you said that you did and that you can't get it.

If you have a problem with getting stuff, or other people getting stuff for free, then leave all deal forums and go somewhere else. If you feel that everyone here is breaking the law, then so be it, call MS or the gov't and tell them, don't bitch and moan about it.

Thanks for your time, have a nice day
