Careful folks. Small print on the Voicestream rebate says valid with $29.99/mo or greater plans. Those of you thinking of the $19.99 plan wouldn't qualify for the $100 from VS. I was about to do this deal last month till I saw the fine print. Went with the Samsung N105 instead cause I'm definitely a light user.

thanks for the the info!
ok now i have 2 options:

v60g = $0 ($150 amazon + $100 vs rebate)
$29.99 plan (1 year contract) = $359.88
total expenses = $359.88
300 anytime & unlimited weekends
voicestream rebate hassle

v60g = $100 ($150 amazon rebate + $0 vs rebate)
$19.99 plan (1 year contract) = $239.88
total expenses = $339.88
no voicestream rebate
only 60 anytime & 500 weekends

anyway, do weekend minutes include nights?

The 150 dollars Amazon mail in rebate is expired on 7-22-02......Does it means I can't get this rebate even if I order it right now? 7-20

kimagurealex, you can get the rebate as long as your order date is before 7-22-02.

dongky, Voicestream's off peak time does not include weekday nights which sucks. I believe that's why they offer a higher weekend minutes amount than other providers.

Now, how good is that Samsung N105?

I've had it for about a month and can only compare it to the Nokia 5165 on the ATT TDMA network.
Pros:
It's Light and small (easily fits in pockets)
flip cover
has voice dialing/voice commands
battery recharges in 90 minutes

Cons:
Battery lasts about 2.5 days on standby although they claim up to 120 hours (5 days)

The clarity isnt' as good, but I don't know if that's a function of the phone or the network. Some calls get choppy even when I'm home at times and improves if I walk around, so I don't know if it's the phone or the signal strength in my area. Experience with another phone on the VS network would tell me if it's this phon

I'm not sure how this affects the amazon rebate though, i think you will be OK because I think they just want to see activation on your first bill for the amazon rebate. Double check though.

I got a call from amazon. The rep said she will send v60g overnight and I can use that instead of Q105. Great customer service.

She actually thought all the phones were activated before they are shipped. We would need to call VS and ask them to switch the phones. But she was not sure about the Q105 I got ... so asked me to call back once I got v60g.

Anyone know how VoiceStream is around the UCLA area (or LA in general)? I have heard of a lot of people having trouble with constant system busy from Cingular.

edmicman, I can give you some data regarding Voicestream coverage in Michigan. I drove through in June. I had signed up for the Voicestream Family Plan, with two phones for my sister & her husband in Kalamazoo. We though it was a great way to split the costs (sharing time), and gave us free VS-to-VS calling, etc. Well, she lives in Paw Paw about 6 miles off of two expressways, and couldn't get reception at her house, and I couldn't get reception at my Moms in Bangor (SW MI). Along I-94 from the Indiana border to Kzoo I got spotty reception the whole way. I got good reception on I-69 from Battle Creek area to Port Huron, but didn't make calls. My sister didn't want the phones, and I almost got stuck with them (2 Samsung N105's), but Voicestream let me drop them from the Family plan about 80 hrs into the contract (normal recision period is only 72 hrs), and I returned the phones.

Quick question. I've been looking in the newspaper (Sacramento Bee) and there are ads all over the place for T-Mobile (aka VS) saying 1000 anytime minutes, free roaming and long distance, and unlimited night time and weekend minutes=39.99. Is this local?

You have to be a NEW CUSTOMER for this deal to work. I've already tried the 'update' thing with voicestream/t-mobile and they won't do it, and neither will amazon.

alrite my mother just bought one of these.
ok pick up the chiense paper if you could read it or go to some chinese store to get this set up. they get you a good deal.
my mom just joined some plan

she could choose either the v60g or the v66 which are both triband for free(no tax no rebate none of that junk)
just payed for service or watever. and walekd out with a brand new phone.

i hear cingular and voicestream uses the same station things and voicestream should be the same with a little stronger signal. who knows. my 2 cents

Bong316, which city are you in? I want to get a V60g but I do not want to sign up more than $19.99/month. For a free cool phone without rebate. I'd like to jump. Thanks a lot.

Reception has been a little fuzzy from time to time when I'm on the road, but overall not bad at all. So anyway, my voicestream 1 -year contract ends on the 18th of August. Is there anyway, I can still take part in this deal by saying I want to re-activate so I get the new phone. If anyone has any experience with this please tell me. Also, do these cell phone companies just end your service completely at the end of your contract or do you have to contact them? Thanks, any input would be helpful

you have to wait 3 months once your contract ends to be eligilbe for the new activation and all the good prices they get for the phones. If you try to cancel your service and then reapply as a new custormer, they will just reopen your acct.

A few details about the 3000 minute plan.... you can call to anywhere in the regional area listed, like for me in Chicago it covers IL, WI, IA, IN, MI, MN, and OH.... and you can call from anywhere in thoose states in their coverage area... their coverage areas is one of the better in IL, this plan is GREAT for me because I am a field service tech and I travel around IN, IL, and WI, so I can use my phone in all thoose areas, and I use alot of minutes... 2250-2750 a month, and I dont call outside that region except to CA for my main company office, but thats 1-800. Best cell service Ive had, nextel is great around here too... the rest pretty much suck... AT&T is ok... Verizon is so so, Sprint blows.

so can you call anywhere in the region from anywhere else in the region, or just call anywhere in the region from your "digital home"? this is the same regional area i was looking at, cept in MI. i can't seem to find that if you get/make calls from the regional area (not the digital home area) if you incur roaming charges, etc., or even get reliable service. actually, from what i've read/heard, I think i'm gonna end up going with verizon in the next couple of days. it just sounds like to me that VS is too shaky unless you're in major population areas.
