eh, its still true, there is a slight difference between the lag of a mx510 500 and 700. the 700 is light years ahead of previous gen cordless and most people will find it fine for gaming, but it doesn't quite match the insane smoothness of esp the 510. i use the 700btw, i just like the cordless aspect. i don't suck that bad at cs

My comments are for only hardcore gammers considering buying this for gamming.

just my opinion I bought Elite Duo....when It was the bomb....another wireless mouse...and this combo....
Forget cordless.
Nothing compares to my razor boomslang 2000 for gamming.
I can not stand cordless mice....

also....what is the big deal? "oh wow he has a cord on his mouse he isnt cool" <---like that ever happens
and it doesnt impress anyone seeing a cordless either.
I use whatever works best.

flame me all you want....it is a good deal if cordless means that much to you...but I prefer a real mouse for gamming

BTW I have 3 Cordless optical mice and 3 keyboards...i dont use either due to gamming.

Damn, I wish I had kept the article that I was reading. Maybe at TomsHardware.com? Found it: http://www6.tomshardware.com/consumer/20030110/mx_mice-08.html

To quote the important parts:

The really new feature of the MX 700 is its new cordless transmission technology, called Fast RF. This is still radio frequency, but the number of mouse-receiver exchanges per second has gone up a lot as it is now 125 instead of the average 50 on an ordinary cordless mouse. And as Logitech says, this is also the top limit of exchanges possible with USB. So, in theory, the lack of a cord is no longer a source of lag in fast movements.

And,

While we are on the subject, compared to PS2, USB is a step backward for the mouse, because PS2 can handle twice as many exchanges per second. That said, quite frankly, and even though the sticklers will criticize, the speed of exchange in USB is quite adequate for a mouse. To make their cordless system even more efficient, Logitech have ensured that the data prepared for the PC is as short as possible between capture by the sensor and sending. This means there will never be a bottleneck of data, so no data will be lost. And in use, this definite improvement is really noticeable. You won't detect any lag in relation to a wired model. We got our fragger pro to play and he corroborated: "This mouse deserves the label 'Approved by hardcore gamers.'"

So basically, this is as good as any other USB gaming mouse. The only way you can get a better mouse is to get a str8 PS/2 mouse.

I've always thought a USB connection is better for a mouse and keyboard. So is a PS2 connection the better way to go?

I have a mx 700, and I have to admit it isnt perfect for gaming as people always seem to say. While its great for office work and light gaming, when it comes to FPS, there is a noticeable lag when playing certain games, especially when mouse acceleration and mouse smoothing is off. And the cordless keyboard also has the lag, especially when multiple repeated keypresses are used.

One more thing, logitech drivers are piss poor. Compared to microsoft drivers, they have many, many problems. The first thing, is that mouseware does not have program specific key presses. Secondly, you need to download an extra utility to make use of logitech's "game detection" which doesnt work half the time and has no advanced configuration whatsoever. Also, there are many incompatilities with the extra buttons and certain games. Some work, some dont.

There is freeware software called logigamer that attempts to remedy some of these problems, but it too doesnt work half the time. It crashes randomly, and outright stops functioning after a certain period of time. At some times the buttons dont even perform their labeled action. And the program detection is pretty weak; as it only detects if the program is running, and not if its in focus, which is important.

Anyways, the mouse is still incredible for a wireless mouse, and the setup is pretty nice except for the problems I mentioned above. However for even moderate FPS gamers, I think you should look for a corded mouse such as the MX5xx or an intellimouse explorer.

If anyone has any solutions to any of these problems, please post.

make sure the transmitter is closer to the mouse? i don't really notice a "lag".. its just not as silky smooth as a 510 to me. maybe your very sensitive to this stuff. other people don't notice much at all heh. and try changing channels. i've learned not to use accel at all. i leave it off in driver and have no probs. otherwise if u have the disable accel in games that triggers in direct x windows or wahtever in xp and is annoying. i use the buttons around the wheel as end/home and set the thumb to middle and the other to something else i forget but since they are keypresses, they work in games without a hitch. app switcher i use f5 for refresh instead.

quick question: is there anyway of getting the hot keys to work with firefox?

absolutely. just make sure to set the mouse wheel click as middle button if u want to have it open more tabs

What are you using to bind the extra buttons to keys while playing games, yet maintaining the normal functions in windows?
