These went on Clearance today, shelf tag had date starting at 9/11 thru oct or november. These may have already been on clearance in some regions, or the shelf tag may still read $229 or higher for the LCD, register should ring it at $179.
Those of you in the boonies might get new boxed models, most stores will only have display models. As always with B&M clearance deals YMMV based on region and store.
NEC LCD1555V: $129.XX : $179 with $50 rebate.
NEC 97F: $35.90 : $95.90 with $60 rebate.
NEC 17" CRT: ~$99. Didn't notice rebate terms.
Most Staples managers also give 10% on open-box items.
This LCD monitor had been on clearance before at a higher price along with some of the other "old" case style NEC monitors. Today the old-style monitors- the LCD 1555V, 19" CRT 97F and the comparable 17" CRT went on "final" clearance.
The LCD is likely one made for distrib by Staples or other stores exclusively, as there is not a lot of info on it on the net. Google NEC 1555V and NEC's spec page will pop up (PDF link). The few important specs: 400:1 contrast ratio, Analog VGA connector (no DVI), 250CD/m2. As this is a "old" clearance model, it is NOT on the website, and most stores will only have the display model of this and the other mentioned monitors.
The 19" CRT is not the best.. it is a flat-CRT, but has been noted to have some geometry problems: but for ~$35, what do you want? Even for $95 plus tax, it is a good deal on a "new" monitor.
IMHO, both the LCD and 97F had nice pictures, not as nice as the new models that are replacing them, but Hot at the price. Just make sure you get a open-box tag if the manager knows how to write one up, or ask for the shelf tag, or rebate may be denied.
