I got a similar-spec'd Dell Inspiron 4100 for more than 35% less half a year ago.

But this is T23, the most popular business laptop.
Inspiron 4000 is at most an entry-level laptop.

Thanks.

T23 is about half the weight of Insipron 8100, and I need to carry it a lot. DELL is good and cheap. But I think IBM is still by far the most reliable one.

get an IBM, they are the best, you mite be able to find better deals on ebay, or ubid

if you need to carry it around all the time, try the x series, with the x-slice, or something like that.

Only bad thing about the IBM is the lame ass video cards in them. Other than that they are the best and lightest. There was a dude on the for sale/trade forums selling one of these for only $1K!!! Of course it sold quickly.

Not bad. I have one and 2-3 pounds makes a difference when you're lugging it around the airport or school.

Plus - Dude, your NOT getting a Dell!

Anyone has experience with this vendor?
I found out that it's just 35miles away from my home, I sent an email to them, and they called me back this morning 9am, promising everything as advertised, they even offer me more discount if I pay by cash before I ask for anything. The guy who called has some mid east accent, but seems ok.
Anyway to tell if a laptop is genuine or faked? I almost got fooled once in New york by a computer store selling fake cool SONY SR33 laptop.

Just back from Thinkpaddepot.com company's office. It's a pretty small company. One of their employees (maybe even the boss himself) talked with me for a while and showed me the computer.
It's a price I cann't say no. So I took it home and I am now using it

It gets quite hot when using for more than one hour, but the fan is very quiet, you can hardly notice it.
Anyway, not bad for this price, they also give me a free carrying case.

VERY COLD!

Heh... You can pick up off Compaq a P4m 1.6/256meg/8x DVD-CDRW/Radeon 7500 for the same price. Look around and you'll find the links to get the deals.

I had the thing in my cart... a smaller spec'ed one for $1400... but I just couldn't justify the cash...

This deal just doesn't sound that great. In fact, it is such a poor deal that I wonder if this isn't a troll on the forum.

I got three Thinkpad T22's, same spec except 800Mhz, and I got them DIRECT from IBM via eBay auctions for $1350. And this was 9 months ago!

Is this like a self promotion thread or something? Why is this guy promoting the deal so much. Without even trying I did a search on PriceWatch.

http://www.eritech.com/
Has IBM T23 PIII-1.13 GHZ, 128MB, 30GB, DVD, 56K Modem, NIC, 14.1 inch TFT, Win XP PRO for $1595 + shipping considering I doubt shippng is more than $150 its a hotter deal.

Seriously a you can easily get a P4 for that price, this seams very steep.

In fact you could have gotten 2 of those Compaq 1Ghz Duron laptops posted a week or two ago for that price.

EDIT2: Ok seriously I think this thread should be locked whats up with flaming everybody's reply?! It's all about supply and demand the cheaper the price the more people are willing to buy at that price at that time, or the higher the price the less buyers. If your willing to pay the price then great good for you. Also throwing around 2399 IBM price mean next to nothing to anybody. MSRP is very generous to the stores and dealers making very nice profit margins. I work for a distrubier and I sometimes see quotes with direct costs to us at $20 and we reselling it for $90 (which is often even less than MSRP). As far as refurb items, never had a problem with them often have the same warranties etc. 90% of the time refrubs are just stuff that people bought and didn't want and returned it, with no problems at all. As to the Compaq laptop deal I was mentioning having less CPU cashe your right, and there are some drawbacks to the laptop too, but it was cheap people were willing to buy at that price dispite the drawbacks. Not every laptop is going to be your ideal IBM T23.

IBM ebay store is no longer selling them for cheap, it seems that they have dumped all those old models (T22, T21, T20...), so now, they only have the new models of T23, and the lowest price they now have in their ebay store is $2149 (just the start price of the auctions).

Also for your T22, it's $1350, then plus tax & shippng, it would still be around $1450 (depending on your state). This one is a little bit expensive, but it's the best price you can now find anywhere, the exact same model is listed as $2399 on ibm.com

I am not promoting anything, I was just trying to see if I can get a decent deal, and for an item with such a price, I won't trust those companies you randomly searched out on pricewatch.com. I don't think I can afford those big hassels for dealing with some crappy dealer.

I need one and I got one, so I am happy But I do regret that I didn't jump onto one during the IBM ebay golden days; I got my 3.5lb X20 for my wife in May for just $500(PIII 600, 20G.....)

BTW: I got the Compaq 723RSH at RadioShack for my friend a couple of week ago for $699 + tax (AR). I don't even want to compare this compaq with this T23. That 723RSH is using a Duron with 64K ondie cache, and this one is 512K; And that one with CDROM is 7lb, this one is 4.6lb. And that compaq even has to hiberate a while after you use it for some time because it gets too hot then the only thing you can do is to hibernate it and take a nap before using it again. No offence. The compaq should be a good deal if the rebates all come back (which I doubt, because the first two rebates are exactly the same offer, except that they use slightly different form), but it should not be compared with T23.

PS: AI42, the T23 you found is REFURBISHED!!!
IBM TP T23 2647-8MU "PIII-1.13 GHZ, 128MB, 30GB, DVD, 56K Modem, NIC, 14.1 inch TFT, Win XP PRO" Factory Refurb $1595
(I think this is the one you are talking about), their shipping is very reasonable though ($19 for FedEx Ground)
