I'm trying it thru Ebates. Has anyone tried it without going through ebates? Maybe that's the hang. CS says to just keep trying.

Risked $35.00 for the good of the team and tried to enter order without going thru Ebates, same problem.

I got back into the photoalley.com site through ebates.com but after starting order it goes directly to final confirmation without giving me an option to check out through microsoft to get the extra 20%.. cancelled and will try again later. Took 4 trys just to get this far.... :-(

Just tried it and it worked going through ebates and then using the MSN passport. I got this on the page with no error messages.

Your order has been accepted
Your order number is xxxxxx
You should recieve the details in your email shortly

P.S....Just got my conformation email from them as well. I guess that is a good sign?

Question. I've had no problems going through ebates for both the Compaq MV920 deal and now the Coolpix 950 deal. How do you know for sure everything went ok? The ebates banner was at the top of the page the entire time, is that all that is required?

go the other way.
don't go to ebates.com first.
instead, go log in passport first, then go to ebates.com, then go to photo alley,
I just got mine at $560 something. waiting for ebates discount and nikon rebate, final would be around $372. just watched some reviews and photo samples online, did not see much difference from those high-end cameras, like finePix 4700, etc.

Looks like there's no limit to how many rebates you submit. Thought I'd buy a couple.

Thanks for the deal.
Mine was $520.00 before 150 rebate and probably 26.00 ebates (5% of 520) for an assumed net of 344.00 dlvd. Great deal for a great camera.

Dammit I keep getting the same error!

I go to MSN website and login to Passport. Then I go to Ebates and clich through. The order goes fine, the wallet works fine, the MSN disount shows up fine, but when I click to finalize the order it generates an error with a reference number. I call customer service and they just tell me everyone else is calling too but they can't look it up or help out at all.

I'm using IE 5.5 with the new service pack, 128 bit security.

Did any of you who ordered successfully use a different shipping address than your billing address? I have to have it sent to my work in NY because they gouge me with tax if I send it to my home in NJ, but both of my addresses are on file with AmEx so it should't fail to authorize.

Very frustrating. I can see it now, they'll want to put it through manually and I'll lose the Ebate. Or it will sell out or they'll pull it.

I keep getting the same error message and was told by one CS to keep trying, but when I called again another CS told me to wait untill tommorow because those ref numbers might actually mean that they process tommorow. By the way, I tried with Netscape and IE, no luck for both.

I used a different billing and mailing address. I did the same thing: MSN, then ebates, then Photoalley. I used IE5 strait from the WIN98SE CD, no updates. I tried it first with Netscape 6 and it failed, but I was trying to log in to MSN AFTER I did ebates and then Photoalley.

Now that I ordered the 950, does anyone have some good leads on rechargable batteries and CF cards, and a USB reader?

its a hot discount, but the 950 is a huge bulky cam. the only reason nikon is putting out a rebate is that the 950 and 800 are obsolete, you can get much smaller cams with 2 megapixels. IE the canon s10.

Actually, I like bigger cams. The smaller ones seems like they'll break, or are too small for my hands and I have only medium size hands. I dont know why manufacturers are emphasizing smaller models... it is not like I'm going to stuff it in my pocket like I would a cellphone.

Update: the camera is backordered.

hans007 ...

>>the only reason nikon [offers] a rebate is the 950 and 800 are obsolete.

Of course. The 990 is now available -- for $999 list (as was the 950 6 months ago, or so).

But at <$400, the 950 is a **great** camera, unless one needs 3 megapixel resolution (where the Olympus 3030 seems to get the nod -- for $999).

And we've **never** found the 950 bulky or heavy (although we've heard those comments). It has great lenses, takes great pictures, and is incredibly flexible. And yesterday we showed our 950 to the prowd owner of an Olympus 1.3 megapixel camera (for which he paid $400) -- he was blown away by the 950, compared with his new toy!

DOWNSIDES (with solutions) ::::

1. No USB support: the 950's serial port connection is incredibly slow and will burn through batteries instantly (the newer 990 has USB support - but it also costs $999 list). We bought a Sandisk USB/CF reader immediately (about $12 after coupons at Buy.Com).

2. No rechargeable batteries: the Nikon 950 eats batteries for lunch. So, as everyone has said, if you buy this puppy, you'll also need to fork out for NIMH batteries and a recharger (about $15 - $25).

3. The included 8mb CompactFlash card is totally inadequate. Yes! But great deals are currently available for 48/32 mb CF cards. And most/many cameras come with too little memory.

In short, for ~$400, we've found the Nikon 950 an incredible bargain! IMHO it's a great camera.

Thanks for this deal! Saved me $80 over Mercata... as I'm in Washington and would have had to pay sales tax. I put orders in both just in case.

FYI: The PhotoAlley web site puked when I did the final order confirmation. Told me to phone them (closed for the night) to follow-up. I think it took my order (gave me a confirmation) but I think they are overloaded...
