Be aware that this camera does not have a viewfinder so you do all your shooting using the LCD. This means several things:

1. It's harder to hold steady
2. Can't see anything if bright sunlight is to your back
3. Battery life isn't very good (you have to run the LCD all the time)
4. Awkward for people like me who only need glasses for reading (I have to put my glasses on to see the LCD and take them off to see anything else)

Actually, I own a CoolPix 2500, and I have none of the problem that TheBigCheese have.
1. I don't see how using a viewfinder make you hold more steady
2. what are the chances where brigh sun is behind you and at the exact angle where it reflect off the LCD? You can adjust the swivel camera so it's at a different angle. Also, you can adjust the brightness of the LCD screen.
3. Battery life is great! If you looked at any of the reviews, you'll see that the battery will last very long. I used it for a 3 day trip in Mexico, and I only had to recharge the battery once, and I was taking pictures, viewing them, taking motion pictures ALL THE TIME!
4. having a digital camera means you can quickly review the pictures you just took, so you'll be using the LCD to review the pictures anyway, so leave your reading glasses on to take picture, and then review the picture!

anyway, I love my Coolpix2500. It's not a professional camera at all, but it goes into my pants pockets without a case
and it's stylish looking to carry around, and it works well!

I'd just like to say that Circuit City also sells this for $299

Circuit city only makes around 10% profit on most digital cameras, so Frys is either selling this below cost or got a special deal, or this is one case where stores make a huge markup.

Hot deal! I think these even support microdrives and movie shots!!!

In 1 GB you could store at least one hour---a camcorder (sort of.)

Anyone ever used the movie feature of a camera?

Actually $299.99 is the current retail price on these puppies. Nikon lowered them a couple of weeks ago. If you do a quick check on pricegrabber.com, you'll see several e-tailers are offering it below $250 (with outrageous shipping). My best price shows $242.07 + $6.75 shipping from PageComputer.

Anyone tried a staples pricematch yet?

If you want a decent 2MP camera, look at the HP 612. It has optical zoom, CF compatible, pentax lens, comes with 8M on camera, with a 16M CF card to boot, a kit with case etc, for $149 shipped from Walmart. I am so happy with mine. Heck of a lot cheaper than the Nikon. Not sure if it is still offered at this price, but worth a check.

I have no idea if this sale is national or local, It's in 8/11 LA Times paper. Last time It was $229 it was on Outpost.com hopefully its national.
