I will definitly have to disagree with some of the points you made in this post. First yes a dSLR will take longer to learn than a p&S we both agree with that but it won't take that long to learn the basic principles of photography (aperature/f-stop,shutter speed, iso, ect) and they aren't all that hard
So are you saying any lens below $600 is junk?

i end up going to dpreview.com and doing a lot of research. It appears that everyone that has been getting refurb d50 cameras from beachcamera/buydig have been getting cameras that look like they are brand new...only indication they are not is by the outside markings on the box. I have not read about one person that has been unhappy. I decide to call dell and cancel my order which i might add was a PAIN in the rear. I had this indian guy that could barely speak english and telling me i didn't have the exact correct information that i made the order. I said i could have used either of two phone numbers and he said well sir call back when you have the correct information and we will try to cancel it so i had to argue saying i did have the correct information and that i had the order number so he needed to cancel my order. So he went through and entered all my information again and was about to cancel it. I am so unhappy how hard it is to cancel something through dell..and no you can't do it through their website......you have to talk to this person that can barely speak english and who enters your information incorrect. They shouldn't have to have all that info to cancel an order anyways.
But anyways i digress i ended up buying the camera from beachcamera for 469.00 shipped. I was saving about a $100 over dells new price since they were still going to charge me tax on my order and with the luck people are having with refurbs i just decided to go that route. So i will have mine soon.

04/15/2006 05:30:31PM Agent (Upinder Singh): "I regret to hear that you want to cancel your order; but sure, I can help you with that."
04/15/2006 05:30:47PM Agent (Upinder Singh): "For verification purposes, may I have your phone number?"

04/15/2006 05:31:41PM Agent (Upinder Singh): "May I please know the reason for canceling the order?"
04/15/2006 05:32:09PM supafly: "The ship time is too long"
04/15/2006 05:32:35PM Agent (Upinder Singh): "Okay!"

I love the D50. Takes an hour to learn the functions, and a lifetime to master them.

First off, it's spelled "aperture" - it's a fundamental vocab in photography and I suggest you learn to spell it correctly, if for no other reason than to have your reply match your authoratative voice on the ease of learning photography.

Ok, now that we have the body, lens deals are the order of business.
I read the Nikon 50mm 1.8 is the budget, must have, portrait, low light lens.
I see no huge price cuts, but the consensus is that this lens is a bargan at about 110-120 beans.
