I got my system running fine with this memory (Infineon chips) now, see above post. I tested both this PNY memory and the Crucial memory with a program called "Memtest-86 v3.0". Both sticked passed with no errors in this test program and I did 6 passes each. That took about 1½ hours for each stick (short test).

The only differance that I seen in the test was that the program displayed for the memory:

Crucial "memory 256M 627 MB/s"
PNY "memory 256M 505 MB/s"

It would seem that the PNY is not as fast as the Crucial and when put both sticks in my system it would cause crashes. I changed the memory timing and it is working now. Once again for the price differance between these two brands of memory, I think this is a good buy.

Jolt2, just curious... what was your timing (and your FSB) before that caused the PNY memory to not work? And also, what chips do you have on your Crucial memory - is it Micron chips or are they Samsung chips? cuz I know Crucial uses Samsung on Samsung also.

Thanks!

Fellas, I got one of my orders, finally. Apparently, the delivery dude claimed no one was home, so the sticks never got delivered. Well, too bad the delivery boy didn't bother to show up.

But one of my orders were re-delivered just two days ago. Infineon chip. I called CS about my second order and complained about how if they re-submitted my order, it would be invalid for the rebate I wanted to cash in and all...so after a long discussion, I faxed in the rebate form and they gave me $15.00 (coupon) and $25.00 off the $59.99 purchase price...no rebate hassles. Really nice of them.

Anyway, later.

docinthebox, the Crucial memory I have has Micron chips on it. The timing on my Leadtek board is set to: Fast mode/auto/auto/2.5T. The FSB is 133 MHz. All default settings. The problems were when I added the PNY memory to the board with the Crucial memory still in it. The Crucial was in the first memory slot and I think that the BIOS was picking that to set the "auto" settings with. The PNY memory then could not keep up with the Crucial settings causing crashes; just my guess. I then test each stick by itself and then ran Windows and everything seemed o.k. then. So the PNY memory is fine.

I got the two sticks to work together by placing the PNY memory in first memory slot and re-booting my computer a couple of times, letting the BIOS memory auto selecting do it thing with the PNY memory. Next I placed the Crucial memory in the third memory slot and ran the memory test program again. After that I started Windows and so far, so good. The memory test showed that with both sticks in my computer that the memory was now "512M 518Mb/s", which is slower that just the Crucial that tested at 627Mb/s. I guess it goes to show that it is best to keep the same brand and size of memory in your computer for the best chance of compatablity and speed.

Jolt2, what's the serial number on your Infineon chips? Is it HYB25D256800AT-7 or is it HYB25D256800AT-7.5? If the last number is 7, then your chips should be spec'ed at DDR266A which is 133MHz@CL=2 and 143MHz@CL=2.5. Since you're operating at 133MHz@CL=2.5, I'm surprised that it didn't work even considering that the RAS to CAS delay and the RAS precharge delay were set at Auto. (But then, of course, that's only the spec of the chips. I don't know what PCB is used by PNY. A poor quality PCB can also affect performance.)

docinthebox, the PNY (Infineon) is -7 and the Crucial is _75. The Leadtek 7350KDA motherboard is known to have very aggressive memory timing. Leadtek was trying to get the same proformance out of the SIS730 as VIA was getting from their 266A chipset. Stock memery settings on the 7350KDA are about the same as overclocked memery setting of otherboards. The memory voltage is set at +0.1V and shows up in Leadtek's SpeedGear program as 2.544 volts.

The PCB used could be the problem or maybe the chips do not like more voltage.
