Circuit City: Olevia 47" 1080P

I checked and found that 10% Coupons can be found on EBAY. Just search for "circuit city coupon", they go for about $1. Not sure if it works...

Just fyi, ive seen these TVs in action and they look like trash. Theres a reason they are always sold so cheap and sony's and pioneers are sold so much more.

If you ever have a chance go to BB/CC/sears etc and take a look at the picture quality and compare.

ya...I thought the same too until I bought my 32" olevia...

I wanted a tv in my gym so I didn't care if I bought a cheap one....went to sears and they had all the name brands next to the olevia. The salesman was introducing all the tvs to another couple so I stood by and listened to him. He pointed out how crappy the olevia looked and how much better the sonys, samsungs and Sharps looked. He was right, those brands looked so good and the olevia looked like crap. the olevia was the cheapest 32" by far at $479, the rest were 900+. I didn't care, I just wanted a cheap 32" for my gym so I got the olevia.

when I took it home and hooked it up with the HDTV antenna that came with my ATI HDTV wonder...guess what? this TV looks pretty damn good! Good enough that the sonys, samsungs and sharps are not worth twice the price. This is my theory, big stores will not let a TV that costs twice as much as another look equally as good...so what do they do? they calibrate the TV that's 1/2 the price to look at bad as it will.

I am so impressed with the 32" that I am seriously thinking about getting this 47"

Yeah I get what youre saying. What you also have to realize though is, the cheaper TV's use cheaper components as well. Its not just what you see, its whats inside also. Obviously up to you what you want to spend but.....

Cheaper components are big one for me. A sony is going to last significantly longer and look better than some cheaper TV like that. Youll need more repairs and hastle....You have to weigh some of that as well.

One other thing you should consider also is, a 32" is fairly small and youll see less of a difference. If you go look at the 47" and compare to other brands of similar size, youll see what I mean.

Anyways, just trying to help you out, so down the line when the TV starts to go out fairly quickly and youre not kicking yourself for buying the "cheap" one.

I guess im spoiled from buying a 50" pioneer elite and 32" sony S3000. Both of these TVs look amazing. When it comes to TVs for me, its not always about getting the "cheapest" one.

Not the 10% coupon that shows up on the website for some TVs, but they're talking about the AAA 10% Member discount which does work.

LOL my 37" Olevia looks better and has better color at 720P than my bros 47" westy at 1080P.

If this 47" truly does look bad then CC will be coming back to pick it up.

I agree. My olevia 242v had better picture quality than the 37" Toshiba Regza I bought for my parents. I had them running side by side with the same feed.

You can call them cheap all day long but the picture quality is stunning and the proof is in the pudding. Dont judge them by the in-store quality cause I know mine looks WAY better than it did in Sears.

Do you also own Bose?

Wired Magazine tests 47" Olevia

Comparison 747 (Wired Article) vs. 247 (The one on Sale @ cc)

Also, Consumer Reports gave the 42-inch Olevia 542i a 'Best Buy' rating for LCD TVs with screens 40 inches and larger.

Olevia get their panels from LG. If you want to convince yourself that spending more money gives you better quality, then delude yourself all you want. Just stop spreading misinformation. The main reason they are cheaper is because they sell at much smaller margins than the name brands like Sony and Samsung.

Just fyi I have also seen these TV's in action and they look great. I should know as I am typing this on my 32in Olevia right now. As far as repairs go I wish people would stop badmouthing this brand. My buddy does TV repair and he has nothing but good things to say about Syntax Olevia LCD's. In fact he was the one who convinced me to buy this TV 2 years ago. Anyways I know 2 years is not long but so far so good. In comparison I told a fried looking for a 32 in LCD about the same time I bought mine to buy an Olevia. However he gave me the whole spiel on repairs and how it will break and he will have nowhere to return it to. He ended up with a 32in Samsung that I personally think has a worse picture then mine. He got it at Best Buy and thankfully bought the warranty as he has had it in twice now because the TV would not turn on.

They should work- they were having a similar problem during the last sale. If you can't get them to work online, call them up and have them enter them on the phone. If not it could be they sold you an already used code.

I bought one of these a couple days before TG. Not only did the AAA coupon work, but the cashier actually rummaged around to find one for me. I'm very much enjoying this TV, btw.

How well are BB/CC/etc LCD TVs setup in the stores?
Do they actually take the time to do any tweaking for picture quality?

Olevia makes decent TV's that are a great value ... I have a 32-inch 532H in my kitchen which I got for $449 on the weekend after black friday & its a lot better then I thought it would be for the price, but if you compare it to most models of (properly calibrated) Samsungs, Panasonics, Toshiba's etc its not going to stand up very well & I know this from plenty of hands-on experience.

Regardless, for a 47-inch 1080p screen this is a very good deal even without the 10% off coupon. (which btw did work for me when I bought a Toshiba 37HL67 at CC for $869 last week ... you just have to click through the link on the coupon to make your purchase)

TV's on display in Big-box stores are just about always running with every setting maxed out & as a result you shouldn't judge picture quality in the store unless you take the time to carefully adjust everthing yourself.

Thanks, bought one!

Though I couldn't get any codes from ebay to work I got a lot of 'need to be a AAA' member error messages from CC and am not sure what that means...? I tried calling too and they basically said it's low enough anyway, good luck trying to find a coupon that works.

To the person who says this tv looks like trash....you are dead wrong.

I've had the 32 since April and the only complaint I have is the "trashy" remote control. But, to say the picture quality is trash is just foolish.

It works great as a xbox 360/pc monitor too!

I have had plenty of hands-on experience myself so we will agree to disagree as my 242v looked much better than the 37hl67. I also had the 237v (yes I bought a few tvs in the past 2 months) my Uncle wanted but that didnt look as nice as the 242v so it must be a different panel for the 40"+? These were all side by side comparisons, of course.

I've had people who own them argue tooth & nail that the Vizio 37/42 inch LCD's are better then various Samsung/Sharp/Toshiba/Sony models too (IMO the Olevias's blow Vizio's away) ... in the end all that really matters is that your happy with your purchase & which TV has a "better" picture is very much subjective.

The lower end Olevia's are a fantastic value & do compare favorably with some higher priced LCD's ... considering that I've seen the 242v @ $750 recently & the 242t @ $699 (same screen with spkrs below instead of on sides) its impossible to go wrong with either one of them.

Also note that the Olevia 7-seris TV's are some of the nicest LCD's I've looked at, in particular the 742i with Realta HQ video processor ... I've seen these online priced under $2000 & they compare very well with any LCD on the market.

Edit: Again I own this Olevia 5-seris: 532H
