*HOT* Opteron 146 = $171

I take it that the stepping is what makes the chip better for OC. What do you guys think are the best chips as far as stepping? I doubt very much if I'll be worrying about OC and just hope it runs normally.

CAB2E week 45 can't remeber the rest - good chip - 2.95 @ 1.66v, 420w Thermaltake is holding me back now (powering a koolance exos, x800xl and this opty is killing it).

I try not to order anything on my debit card over the Internet. I use regular credit cards. At least with credit cards you have a nice window before you have to pay, which can give you time to have the charge removed before the bill comes due. Also credit card companies will go to bat for you in case of bogus charges like this. Monarch, or anyone else, can't afford to lose the good graces of Visa, Mastercard or American Express. With debit, it is pretty much just you and your checking account.

Different multiplier, 10 vs 9. You might need the 146 if your board doesn't go over 300MHz FSB.

Different multiplier, 10 vs 9. You might need the 146 if your board doesn't go over 300MHz FSB.

I quess I was not clear. Someone ordered the last one and THEIR payment bounced. I was next in line and my payment went thru. Excalibur called me to say that the email I just had gotten saying I was out of luck was now recinded and the last one had NOW been alocated to moi.

Sorry (sorta) that someone missed out. But If I was not next in line someoene else would have been.

Tankguys has a handful of 144s in, multiple steppings. I've never heard of CACJE, or the CAB2E 0546 BPMW. Any experiences with either?

Like 2 of the 50 are pre-sold, so plenty available. I beleive the price is $165. We obviously can't tell you stepping info until they arrive though.

All depends

If you want one soon; go with the 144. The difference between the 2 is that the 144 has a 9x multiplier, the 146 has a 10x. Both tend to OC to around the same maximum, the 146 allows you to do so with a lower HTT, however. If you have a board that can push a high HTT without much problem, the 144 will do you fine. If, on the other hand, you're willing to wait and/or your board can't run very high HTT, go for a 146.

Steppings are really subjective too... CAB2E's are proven pretty consistent, and the CACJE's are still too new to really know for sure. Either way they should clock quite well, if you go CAB2E you get something that's fairly proven, with the CACJE you get to chart unknown territories
