I think the 144 is better; you get twice the cache and they do tend to OC a bit better, but others may debate it a bit... kind of personal preference.

As for the version of the CAB2E, that also doesn't make a huge difference. We give the choice for the more "hard core" people who like to get that specific. There is likely very little difference between the two.

anybody that ordered form excaliber recently get theirs? i ordered a 146 on 12/25 and i am just waiting for a tracking #..... for those that have ordered from excabiber in the past, how long before you ordered did you get your tracking info?... i know i am being impatient, but still would like to know. thanks

Just got my opty 146 this morning.

The idiot from UPS literally threw the box containing the opty 146 on my doorsteps. Jack ass. Anyway it was packaged very well by mWave so no harm came to my precious.

Ordered it on the 23rd, payed 10 dollars for shipping (2 -day). But my eVGA/7800gt combo will not come till friday. No choice but to wait.

And a big thank you to the OP of this thread. I actually ordered a amd 64 3200 at first but cancled it after reading the post. For only 10 more dollars more i got a much better processor.

Ex Caliber just canceled my order. I ordered on the 24th and they sent me all the paper and said they still had some and I believed them. Today they canceled the order...Now I don't know what to do. I know that Ex caliber just lost a future customer.

I just got a call from AMD today, and my shipment of 52 146's that was supposed to have been shipped last week is now in "Pending" status, and "They have not been scheduled due to product constraints. We will re-visit product availability for Q1?06 on 1/3/06"

Not entirely sure what that means... but 146's may be tough to find again for a while.

i got 2 cab2e 0546's from mwave (146's). Got one to 2.85ghz stable on an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, and the other stable @ 2.95ghz on an eVGA SLI mobo. Not quite sure why i can't get further with the a8n board, seeing that it SHOULD be better at OC'ing and all. It also has better cooling (7700cu) vs the eVGA setup with a thermaltake silent boost cpu hsf. Any help with tryin to get this beast up to 3ghzish with the a8n would be much appreaciated... Thanks

Looks like I might just go ahead and get a 144 myself. Which stepping is best for the 144's?

There really isn't a "best" stepping with them anymore, from what I can tell. CAB2E is the most common, and has historically done pretty well. CACJE's are new, not much data out on them.

My guess, however, is that all the Opterons will OC well regardless of stepping, just by nature of them being Opterons (thus binned lower, and being better silicon)

couldn't find one for a decent $$$, i went with a gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939, it was only ~$65 and i have used gigabyte in the past and was happy, so hopefully their quality hasn't changed....

i was going to wait too, but i figured i am going to o/c anyway and want ~2.5GHz, so either way i can get there (in theory). you never know, that is the problem, but i am sure they will get to your question soon , but i think they are in michigan, so they might be asleep at the momemnt???

what m/b do you have? are you planning on o/cing?

i would leave a nastygram on rr for excaliber, but rr asks for a invoice number.....all i have is a cancelled one

I have the Asus A8V Deluxe. I really didn't plan on OC'ing but just look for a stable computer that is fast. I have two 64X 3000 now and a 3200 that I'm typing on now.
It really isn't a necessity for me to get it together. It's just that I have everything but the CPU and when I saw the Opteron 146 I couldn't resist. I'm not sure what I want to do.
I had ordered from TankGuys first but they came back and told me they didn't have any in stock so I canceled and ordered from Excaliber. Like you they said "yes" that they had them. I just might sit back and wait.

i would hate for you to have to pay a lot more $$$...

too bad when you order something like we did from excaliber and they told us it was in stock, then a couple days later find it wasn't, you can't trust these places

allstarshop seems to keep gettng them in periodically too. good luck

honestly, even if you o/ced a 144 to a 146 it should be no problem (again, ymmv and theoretical) but i don't think i have ever seen anybody with any cpu not be able to get a 200MHz o/c (within the last couple of years)

I'm getting a "Product not found!" on TankGuys, both from the links on this forum and from the link on their front page, which says it's $165. If I search their site for it, I find it, but it shows up as $209.37 (and OOS). Maybe I'll just go with the 144. I really wish I could get the 146 for $165, though.
