I'd be wary of Monarch Computers. I placed 2 orders from them for the 165 and the 144 combo deal and they responded with some BS email that they're not able to send to shipping address and that the shipping address had to be registered and verified through my bank. This I have never heard of before and too much of a pain to deal with so I called to cancel. Meanwhile, they had already debited my account for nearly $600, which would not be returned to me for at least 15 days the clerk says! It appears to be a tactic to buy time until shipment arrives.

That's nothing new. Many companies do that in order to prevent fraud. I had to do that a few years back when I ordered from Chief Value.

When you are placing your order, it warns you the address needs to be on file.

That's fine. Well and good, if their true intentions. But not to return my money for 15 days is BS. If the can debit my account the day I placed my order...then they can surely credit my account the day I cancel.

FYI as well: We've got at least 50 of the 146's on the way, and our price will likely come down a bit... we're waiting on final invoicing from AMD to determine our price

Just had a bad experience from Monarch. Ordered an OEM Abit AX8. The unit came in a white box. There's another beat-up Abit box inside this white box. The board is wrapped with a used anti-static bag with Scotch tape instead of the Abit-logo anti-static bag. The board is populated with Nichicon AND United Chemicon capacitors. My other three AX8 builds were ALL Nichicon capacitors.

One of the United Chemicon capacitor had melted plastic sleeve. I checked the back side and saw that this cap had been re-soldered. Also observed at least 8 other re-soldered joints (flux still there). This is DEFINITELY a refurbished board.

I asked for a NEW replacement and they said that this board is NO LONGER in production. My only option is to get my $ back. I suspect this is BS cause I still see the AX8 at NewEgg.

Unless the manager at Monarch replace this board, or give me an equivalent Abit board at no additional cost, this outfit will lose me as a customer. There is NO excuse for sending that crap to a customer by labeling it OEM.

This way OT, sorry, but I don't think that board is discontinued. I can still buy them at a few places... still fairly common.

Yes, I know. Probably time to take my business to another outfit. Burn me twice, shame on ME!!!

The sad part is that the average consumer may not know that Monarch is trying to unload refurbished goods under the name "OEM". When caught, they decided to play the out-of-stock game. CROOKS!!! Suspect this is NOT an isolated incident (cockroach theory). My GF is a corporate attorney. Will check to see if there's any other legal step that I can take.

The internet is a great place to exchange info. Still no call-back from the Monarch customer service manager.

I just ordered one from Ex caliber for $171. They have listed that they have 5 in stock and I hope they aren't blowing smoke. I must admit I was impressed with TankGuys as I ordered from them yesterday and they sent me an E-Mail that they weren't in stock and that they would notify me when it came in. I really didn't want to sit around and wait not knowing when it would come. T replied that since they had none in stock I would rather cancel. I thought I would have a hard time but by the time I logged on to their web site they had cancelled my order. Now if they took it from my credit card or never billed my credit card I will really be impressed. I will do business in the future with them,

All of them are E4. The steppings most people talk about are the 5-alphanumeric, 4-digit date code, and 4 letters that follow. Example: CABNE 0544 EPWM.

I quess I was not clear. Someone ordered the last one and THEIR payment bounced. I was next in line and my payment went thru. Excalibur called me to say that the email I just had gotten saying I was out of luck was now recinded and the last one had NOW been alocated to moi.

Sorry (sorta) that someone missed out. But If I was not next in line someoene else would have been.
