Yea, sorry, our stupid site keeps putting the 146 as unavailable. While that is true, it then stops listing it... very annoying. I fixed it again, but I'm sure it will happen again today.

In any case, the 146's are no ETA again now, based on what I heard from AMD. You're welcome to order, and we'll honor the price you pay today, I just can't promise a certain date

How was your last one did you able to hit 3GHZ

It would do 3.0ghz at 1.5v on air; 3.1 ghz at 1.62v on water. It was a CABYE 0540 FPMW I received the middle of Nov. It wasn't quite as good as my current Opti that'll do 3.1 @ 1.54v on water (CABYE 0540 FPBW)

Which MB did you decide on? The Neo2 Platinum?

The NEO 2 Plat won't do 320 HTT. Good luck on the Gigabyte.

Was the last extension on those steppings "FPAW"?

Thanks,

Yes, both were FPAW's

Sweet...looks like a good OC'ing batch then.

Yea, mine crapped out at about 305.

Bob, let us know what your Gigabyte actually gets up to. If it can reach 320, then I might just pick one up to play with.

I just re-ordered from Tank Guys and now I'll just sit back and wait. I just hope it isn't 2 or 3 weeks of waiting and then disappointment.

i sure will. i am not sure if my psu will go that far, but i may be upgrading it to a seasonic s-12 430 here shortly, or i might go with one of the fsp psu @ 450W-500W.

i already know my ram limit on my p4, so i am assuming it will be the same on the A64 platform...

i am just crossing my fingers that gigabyte didn't go down the sh!tter since the last gigabyte board i had which was a dual p3 board, so it was some time ago. we will see.

The last 939 Gigabyte board I looked at didn't have adequate ram settings to get the board up to those speeds. I don't remember which model it was (it was a new board an old friend bought ~3 months ago).

this is definately a possibility....i will let you know where it comes in. after i build the rig, i will run it prime for ~12hrs @ stock settings to make sure there are no errors with the setup, after that i will see what it can do

I've got a A64 3200+ @ 2.5Ghz in a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. Would one of these Opterons be a noticeable/worthwhile upgrade?

It should be a noticeable improvement if you can run the Opteron at +2.7GHz. Have any plan for your old A64?

Hmmm... Maybe I will jump on one of the 144's then. Would it work well in an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe? What is the best stepping of those available? CAB2E 0545 MPMW, CAB2E 0546 BPMW, or CACJE 0546 APBW?

As far as the 3200+, I'd be selling it as I only have 1 939 motherboard.

Thanks!

Edit: Nevermined the stepping quesiton... I just re-read through the thread.

noticeable? for only 200MHz and 512KB(assuming he doesn't have a diego) cache improvement? come on, you just want his old a64.

i am not really expecting much of an improvement over my p4 @ 3.0GHz with a 144 @ ~ 2.5GHz but just wanted to learn about the a64 and how the memory controller and o/cing works on that platform vs the p4 platform. my friends have a64 and don't know how to o/c.

Hmmm... If there isn't a significant improvement I guess I will not be getting an Opteron 144. Guess I'll wait until they get cheaper. Thanks for the advice.

Finally got my 146 in from mwave, CAB2E 0546 FPAW. Took a while to work most of the kinks out of the asrock board (new bios, new battery, still cant get the lan driver to install), but have it maxed out at 2.74Ghz 1.425V. Would crash at 1.4V. Modded bios and board will have to be the next step.

Very nice. Which BIOS are you using. I read somwhere that 274 is the highest HTT alot of pople can hit, but you can go much higher (up to 400 HTT has been reported) ith a different BIOS. I can't remember which one though.

I'm upset that I didn't get one of these whlie they were in stock. I farted around, and know no one has them except for Newegg who want $253 for the 146.

Ok I found it.

System will not post if I set HTT higher than 274MHz, why?
BIOS v1.20 AND NEWER have a ?block? on HTT, max working HTT you can get is 274MHz. If you want to get around that problem, use BIOS OCWBeta1. We have seen OCWBeta1 BIOS go as high as 400 HTT.

BIOS with HTT capped @ 274
- v1.20
- v1.30
- v1.40
- OCWBeta3 <- It's based on BIOS v1.40, so YES, it has the cap.

BIOS without HTT cap
- OCWBeta1 <- cpu speed on POST screen is wrong, you have to check cpu speed in windows.
- OCWBeta2 ? <- I have not tried this myself, can someone confirm it?

Got that from this thread. Very good info.

Reaching 274 was the first hurdle. The bad battery threw me for a loop, and then the bios that shipped with the board was nothing but boot problems. So i dumped in V1.5 and finally reached that limit. Hopefully sooner then later Ill try a OCW bios and the vcore mod.

ok, i got it all done a little later than i thought i would. so far this new year has been a whirlwind....

i have built the rig, but have not test any o/cing yet, i have just verified that at stock it is prime stable overnight, which it is. just want to start with what i know is a stable machine.

the m/b i chose was this Gigabyte one. i was a little concerned because of the reviews on newegg with the tightness of the ram slots, which they are close.

also, as far as o/cing, i need to read up quickly on o/cing a a64, but in the link below i have attached some bios screenshots hoping to show what others have questioned about the settings on this board. if more are needed, let me know of what and i will take a pic of it.

also, the site i made in a matter of minutes and didn't take much time to crop/reduce the image sizes, as they are about 100K each, so dialup peeps, be aware.

other than that, i hope this helps peeps....

my first impression of the board is good, and have no complaints with it at stock speeds. it has everything i need and has so far been very reliable when gaming. the bios is kind of weird as you can get to the bios with the del key, but once you are in the bios setup if you hit ctrl-F1, it brings up additional items, which at first i did not know and may have overlooked it in the manual, and this is where you can set the ram to 1T, 2T or auto, agp aperture, etc

Is there a big problem with Opteron 144? You can get one for $159 + shipping from mwave. I am wondering why there is so much more interest in 146 vs. 144. Is it just the 200MHz extra or is there something very wrong with 144?

You get a 10x multiplier with the 146, while you only get a 9x with the 144. For people that are trying to get the max overclock, that seems to be the general reason.
