2.5 stable is excellent. For $150, these chips are unreal. Congrats.

My 146 will be here Tuesday, but I still need to order a case/PSU/MB. I kind of just bought the CPU, and my wife was not too happy. I'll have to try and sneak the other orders in soon, because it's gonna kill me having this CPU just sitting around.

thanks i hear you on the wife portion. when i told her i was going to get a new psu, mine was pretty cool...

good luck on the 146, you will have to fill us in on your progress

Throw a little voltage on the chip and take her on up.

i am good with 2.5GHz, that way it can throttle/power down. one of my reasons for buiding this rig and to get rid of my p4 was heat

what are you running for hsf?

Everything I read says with higher voltage you wont get anywhere.

Alot also has to do with the stepping. The CABYE's are the ones that started the Opty craze as they have proven to be unbelievable OC'ers. Quite a few people with 146 CABYE's have reached 3.0 GHz with extra Vcore.
But the steppings released since then have not been as good and really hit a wall. No matter how much voltage you put to them, they don't increase much in speed, at least while still being stable.

What setting are you running? Which memory you are using? Give us some detail.

Anyone buy one from excaliber recently? Just wondering how long it took to ship, any problems, etc?

we'll see how it clocks tomorrow...
and is it just me or is AMD's packaging way sexier than Intel's?

This is the stepping I got and I fixed my problem...I thought I was using the latest bios but well I wasnt.

Either way It would post at 3 GHZ after some crazy tweaking but it was wildly unstable... So I backed it off to 2.9 with the same unstable results. (I think its my memory)

In the end I got 2800 280 x 10 with htt at 3x only .25 of voltage however I went to 275 x 10 htt is at 4x (1100) rock solid...The only thing im not wild about is my memory only running at 183MHZ vs 200 or above. But I got to keep my timings so im not sure i will notice a difference.

So much for prices going up on these Opterons. The link below shows AMD just announced price cuts across their product lines.

The Opti 146 @ $125ea. /1000 units
The Opti 144 @ $111ea. /1000 units

Actually, those prices were the same as they always were. *however* they mean about as much now as they did before... NOTHING.

My wholesale prices on all the 1XX 939 opterons are up... significantly. Prices on the 144 went up almost $60, prices on the 146 went up almost $70.

Despite what the pages on AMD site say, price have gone up. Granted, that makes very little sense, but it's true.

Tankguys, I don't doubt that fact at all. The processors are in high demand by the OC enthusiast and if AMD can't supply that sector, the prices will naturally go higher. I was hoping for a price reduction, because I'd like one for my gaming server. But I guess I'll stay with my 3200+ Winchester core (@ 2.6ghz) for a while longer.

Wishful thinking ....

I got my rig up and running last night.
Using the Asrock Dual SATA board, I got 2700 Prime stable. I need a different BIOS to go higher , and this CPU appears to have a fair amount of OC left.

Quick question for those who used the stock heatsink: Did you just use the gray paste that came pre"installed" or did you scrape it off in favor of your own?

The grey paste is fine for one time use, if you decide to remove the heatsink at a later date you will need some AS5.

I don't even touch the paste on the HSF. My trusty SI-120 takes care of everything
