Not exactly the most powerful LED's - only 80mcd, but still: UV LED's!

If this isn't as cool as I think it is, then lock the thread.

don't we rub goop and goo all over our bodies in the summer just to avoid UV rays?

sweet! i think this is kind of expensive but this is the first ive seen or heard of these. As far as the "uv ray" paranoia, the amount of radiation emitted from this wee led will make you listen to pink floyd more and shop for UV reactive items, but your microwave or annual visit to the dentist office is exponentially more harmful.

Isn't this the same light emitted as a black light? If so, that's pretty cool.

If you are using it around a anodized aluminum computer case be careful. You will either have to give your case a light mineral oil wipedown, or risk your anodization decaying, which it does readily under UV.

The rest of their LED selection does seem a bit expensive. Electronic Goldmine has really bright LED's at good prices. Don't think they have UV LED's though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't glow in the dark (non-tritium based) stuff glow really bright when bathed in uv light?
If so you could make like a panel or cube out of glow in the dark stuff and put uv led's behind it...

From here:

<< UV LED >>

<< This is one LED that you should NEVER, EVER look at directly with your eyes. This is because the invisible ultraviolet radiation is harmful to them, and can cause corneal fogging that mimics cataracts; and can cause even more severe damage to your eye's lens with only slightly prolonged exposure. >>

Hmm... maybe this is not so hot deal?

just so you know:

<< UV-A has wavelengths from 320-400nm (nanometers), UV-B from 280-320nm, and UV-C below 280nm >>

so this is emitting longer wavelength (and hence lower energy) UV rays. the wavelength 254nm is particularly bad because this is the optimal wavelength to product TT dna dimerization. not to say that this is totally safe, but it could be worse.

These are handy if you have nightvision goggles.
You can signal, etc., and someone with a scope can see it.
