So, what are you trying to accomplish with your essays of ignorant attacks? So far you seem to have made yourself look the fool. I haven't seen anyone other than you condescend me in any way, yet I think you've soured plenty of other people's opinions of yourself, so congratulations.

And who the hell are you anyway, aside from someone who likes the sound of his own Limbaugh-esque voice, or in this case, the look of his words. You're making fun of me for being a computer engineering major? In case you didn't know, CompE is the highest paying bachelor's degree on average in the US, so you can laugh at me on my way to the bank.

I'm really at a loss for words for the little "Computer engineering major? HAH!" comment. I don't understand what you're trying to say. Are you confused, thinking computer engineers are slobs that work for Compaq on an assembly line? Computer engineers are the people who design this sh!t: processors, power supplies, ram, hard drives; so I don't understand your little fit of mockery, it makes no sense.

Anyway, I can't be bothered wasting any more of my time on your sorry @$$. You're an arrogant, obnoxious, pretentious little b@stard, who is probably all of 100lbs, got picked on in high school, hasn't gotten laid, and is exacting his revenge on people by typing small novels of useless babble about a subject he proclaims to be an expert on by denouncing the opinions and knowledge of others.

Grow up, figure out how to speak with tact to others, and learn how to have a God d@mn intelligent debate.

Just do a search for his past posts and read through them. He is like this all the time.
Or are you going to argue about that too ValsalvaYourHeartOut. Please do, because I can't wait to post the links.

When will people realize that just because the deal isn't hot for them, that it doesn't automatically not make it hot for others. When the 9800 pro first came out @ what like $450 (I can't remember) people were like LOL, you are fine with just a 9700 pro, etc. Maybe you are fine with the 9700 pro, but that doesn't mean that it's not worth $450 to someone to have the newest card on the market at that exact moment. There are others that will wait till prices come down, but in the meantime, the fellow who dished out $450 has enjoyed his wonderful card for a number of months.

Thanks for the NON-parallel example. When the 9800 pro came out, there was NO RIVAL to its performance -- that is, you couldn't exactly take two 9700's to double its performance. Thus, if someone found a place that had a 9800 for $50 cheaper, it certainly was a hot deal. I certainly cannot argue with that. HOWEVER, the deal here is NOT the case...for a $250 single Raptor, you can achieve far-greater STR performance for FAR less money...and get additional storage space to boot. ...but thanks for the stupid post...you should have followed your original intention to stay out of this thread.

So, if the deal is not hot for you, then you can say that. There's no need to call people stupid and start derailing the thread about how the item just doesn't hold up to what's already out there.

Whether or not this deal is hot or not for me is irrelevant. I have merely stated that for far less money, you can get a RAID0 configuration that is faster and offers more storage space...and I have provided evidence to support this. That's it. If somebody has access to the information I have posted and decides that to get a single Raptor anyway, that's not my problem...his decision may or may not be a dumb one...it depends. That being said, I give people the benefit of the doubt...the only people I might call "stupid," are the ones who have said things that would suggest that they are stupid....and believe me, there has been no shortage of such individuals in this thread.

IF the raptors are such crappy drives, WD wouldn't have made a 2nd version. Companies aren't dumb, and there's lots of research that goes into releasing a new product. Obviously they have released a product in the 74gb raptor that competes quite nicely with its competition - high-end scsi drives. If you don't believe so, that's fine, yet there are lots of qualified people who would tend to disagree with you.

For instance, this was an example of a stupid comment. NOBODY here...NOBODY AT ALL has stated that the Raptors are crappy drives. So why the h_ll do u bring it up? Why bring up a point that everyone agrees with already just to argue it? STUPID! That would be like me saying: "Since you think Maxtor hard drives spin at 4800 rpm, there's lots of qualified people who would tend to disagree with you"...oh wait a minute...you never said that Maxtor's spin at 4800 rpm...but hey, it'd be fun just to say you did anyway. Please. Grow a brain before you decide to post again.

Most notably having 2 (or 4) drives in your system inhibits the ability to have more drives. If someone likes to run a single drive for OS, and other drives for data, then have a raid0 (raid01) complicates issues unless they have a full tower case and a very good psu.

I have a mid-tower case, a 350W PSU, and i have 4-drives. I have absolutely ZERO problems...as I have already addressed with two other people, you can still have plenty of space between drives in a mid-tower and 350W is sufficient for a 4 HD system. I don't know who passes on this garbage about "oh, you need a full-tower if you have more than 1 hard drive" and "oh, you need at least 400W if you're gonna run THAT"... You remind me of those monkeys working in the car audio department at CC/BB who will say "What? You have a 12" sub?...a 12" sub needs at least 400W of power"....then when you explain that going from 200W to 400W only increases your SPL by a lousy 3dB, they just look at you dumbfounded and say "Yes, but everybody knows you need 400W for a 12" sub". I kind of wonder of those car audio salemen frequent ATHD . . .

Of course you could always partition your raid setup into a small portion for OS, and the rest for data. However, I have tried this too, and have been unhappy with the performance. Try writing/reading to your data portion while trying to do intensive stuff with your OS drive. It sucks for obvious reasons. Hence the switch back to a single fast OS drive and two data drives. I can safely rip dvds, transfer files to my data drives without worry of it slowing down access to my OS drive.

I actually run 2 RAID0 arrays...and my swapfile and temp folder are on a different array -- this means I can read/write to the paging file and read/write temp files while SIMULTANEOUSLY accessing the OS drive. I also do my "intensive" stuff on the 2nd array as well... try doing THIS stuff with your SINGLE Raptor.

I'm simply responding in a similar manner to which you've addressed me. If you're going to challenge others in their grammar and verbal ability, you'd better be prepared to defend yourself, my friend.

And who the hell are you anyway, aside from someone who likes the sound of his own Limbaugh-esque voice, or in this case, the look of his words. First of all, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, the starting salary of Computer Engineering has been surpassed by that of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering several times...so your claim is NOT entirely correct. Secondly, I should point out that MY particular profession happens to pay 5-6x your starting salary, so maybe before you start boasting about your future income, keep in mind that 50K/year doesn't make you Donald Trump.

I'm really at a loss for words for the little "Computer engineering major? HAH!" comment. I don't understand what you're trying to say. I made the HAH! comment because for someone who might be expected to have extensive knowledge in this area, you really only have basic "I read XYZ on tomshardware.com" knowledge... Thanks, but anyone here can barf back what they've read on a website.

Anyway, I can't be bothered wasting any more of my time on your sorry @$$. Please don't project your miserable life onto other people...there are other, more healthy, psychlogical defensive mechanisms you might try...like denial...or regression...but please, not projection. It's so pathetic.

Grow up, figure out how to speak with tact to others, and learn how to have a God d@mn intelligent debate.

I have tried my very best to have an intelligent debate, but as I learned, this would require TWO intelligent parties...and I'm still waiting...

No kidding you can have 4 drives, I was referring to adding more arrays/drives on top of that array. I bring up stupid points because you bring up stupid points. You say that this RAID01 setup is better, yet it loses on many fronts - access times, case space, power consumption, write speeds, heat output, noise, and most notably 2 years of warranty beyond your 7200 drives. To some people those are important, and add to the overall value of the drive. You are however only interested in performance in a few areas, which is fine for your own case. But, since you are totally missing most of my points, just like how you couldn't comment on the statistics I gave showing the raptor beating raid performance in all but read speeds (where your rebuttal was along the lines of...benchmarks are misleading, lol), my time can be better utilized outside of this thread. Adieu.

For all of his supposed intelligence and superiority, Valsalva has never heard of overstating one's case. He had a point, he posted credible information, but he had to belittle anyone that disagreed with him. Whether it was the semantics of their post or a misplaced period Valsalva found it and pounced on it.

I'm glad that you acknowledge that your points are stupid. On the other hand, you have failed to challenge any of my points specifically, which hardly earns you the right to call MY points "stupid." ...but perhaps if you hope/wish/pray to yourself

You say that this RAID01 setup is better, yet it loses on many fronts - access times, case space, power consumption, write speeds, heat output, noise, and most notably 2 years of warranty beyond your 7200 drives. To some people those are important, and add to the overall value of the drive.

That's very true...for instance, if it's super-important to someone to have a HD that has neat little heat sink fins on the side, there's no comparison - the Raptor has them, but the Maxtor's don't. You can place heavy emphasis on whatever the heck you want to - you want a drive that rhymes with "Laptor" and is manufactured by a company that is the opposite of "Eastern," then fine - what can I say? The last time I checked, people upgraded their hard drives because they wanted PERFORMANCE and SPACE for the CHEAPEST PRICE. The Raptor falls flat on its face in ALL THREE of those departments. I have already addressed the issues of access time, case space, power consumption, heat, noise, and warranty to various people over the course of this thread. Please refer to other posts I've made specifically regarding these issues -- if you still don't get it, quote me, and address my point directly. With regard to write performance, again, I don't trust the particular benchmarks published by TomsHardware...if some of the test's results are clearly not valid (i.e. even the Raptor's RAID0 write performance fell with respect to single drive Raptor), then it's hard to trust the rest of the conclusions.

Adieu.

I have addressed EVERY point you have made specifically and without generalizing...again, if you have a specific problem with anything I've written, I encourage you to quote me and directly respond to what I've written. Put up or shut up. Personally, prefer the latter.

Well goshdarnit, only a person of supreme arrogance would think he was being spoken of when his name wasn't actually mentioned!!! Let's see..."blah blah blah Valsalva blah blah" OH, WAIT, MY NAME WAS MENTIONED!!! Well I'll be darned! Shoot. Well there goes that theory.

Hey, I've said it before, I'll say it again: I only "belittle" people who bring it upon themselves. It's called reciprocity.

So, I ask you...do you have anything to contribute to this thread, or did you post here just to "belittle" me?? Oh wait, no, that would make you a hypocrite...that CAN'T be possible.

This, coming from someone who may as well put "Try again?" in their sig...

Anyways, I was just thinking about getting a 74 GB to replace my 2 WD800JBs. They just make too much heat, they're loud and aren't all that responsive in RAID 0. Plus the added bootup time is no good with RAID. I think what I'll likely do is go with a raptor + a large samsung HD..

By the way, Valsala seems a little angry. Some people value performance above value. I just do not find it reasonable to put 4 HDs in a single case. And I have an Antec 1080 case! The raptor is a great performer. It comes at a high price, but it's still a great performer.

Talking about you does not equal talking TO YOU. Now, I am sure in your extreme arrogance and narcissism that was hard to understand, but it also leads me to believe you are a bit myopic. I already contributed my piece to the thread. I said you had valid points, but you way overstated them and started acting like a jerk. You can say these people deserved it, but from my point of view all they did was disagree with you. Now that differs from what I do, because I only belittle extreme morons, or people like you that think they are superior to everyone else. You should peruse your dictionary a bit, because me calling your behavior extreme and unwarranted is not hypocritical at all. That would require me to say that I have never been extreme or had unwarranted behavior on these forums. This is not something I've ever said or done, so your cries of my being a hypocrite fall unfounded. I've noticed you typically call anyone who disagrees with you a hypocrite, while ignoring your own hypocrisy.

"I only "belittle" people who bring it upon themselves"

Aren't you bringing insults upon yourself because of your behavior? So basically you contradict yourself on when insulting someone is agreeable. Well isn't that open to opinion... something you can't stand others to have? People expressed valid points in opposition to what you said, but you demanded that they admit your points were better. Sorry, but an opinion is simply that. People have different reasons and ideas of what they want, so your belief that your opinion is superior is arrogant and myopic. Feel free to use some more fallacious reasoning to discredit what I said, but it rare to meet someone who so hyper-focuses on an issue that they miss the big picture. You could have posted that you thought it wasn't a hot deal and answered any questions resulting from that statement. You chose to act like an asshole instead. The difference between you and I is that I contain my behavior to Off-Topic expect such sarcasm and blatant thread crapping. In Hot Deals people don't expect that. You could always stop beating the dead horse but it is obvious that Jesus loves you too much for that(You know God loves you don't you Valsalva). I think you should ask Jesus into your heart right now. If that doesn't get you to freak out I don't know what will.

Off-Topic a bit different than Hot Deals.

I hate to call for it, but is there such a thing as a lock for stupidity, lengthy posts and being OT?

out of the 240 posts here there are less than 20 that address the deal itself, but about 200 that are dealing with what boils down to a drawn out debate on how to configure a PC (which belongs into another forum).

On the other hand people cannot listen to Howard Stern anymore in some parts of the country, may be this is some sort of replacement

The fact that you were talking ABOUT me in such an unfounded an provocative manner clearly warranted a response from me - even a pseudointellectual, such as yourself, can consult his Encyclopedia Brittanica and realize that this is true. So to equivocate the scenario and attribute my response to "extreme arrogance and narcissism" suggests that either a) you have the reasoning capability of a simian or b) you just wanted to start a flamewar. I'd say it's more of b), with a component fo a).

You can say these people deserved it, but from my point of view all they did was disagree with you.

It was the manner in which they disagreed with me that I have a problem with.

Speaking of extreme morons, I'm not surprised that you weren't able to figure out why I was calling you a hypocrite. Previously, you had castigated me for belittling people on this thread, and presently, it appears that you are attempting to do EXACTLY THE SAME THING to me. This makes you a hypocrite. Perhaps you'd care to address this, or do you stipulate that you are, indeed a hypocrite?

I've noticed you typically call anyone who disagrees with you a hypocrite, while ignoring your own hypocrisy.

This is an example of wishing/hoping/praying that something is true in order to support the notion that you entire viewpoint is correct. Unforunately, like many of your observations, this one is blatantly false. QUOTE ME EXACTLY WHERE IN THIS THREAD I HAVE CALLED ANYONE A HYPOCRITE BESIDES YOU (WHICH YOU ARE). Otherwise, I would like you to explain why you said it's okay to molest children ...I can make up things too, ya know.

Unfortunately, your characterization of people's responses couldn't be more bogus. The posts that you refer to have been no less than retarded. For instance, people argue that you can't get 4 drives for under $250 because there aren't that many deals. Then I say just go search ATHD, and there's a ton of them. People don't look, and say no there aren't. So then I search myself quickly and post SEVEN distinct deals. Then they say, there are rebates. And i say no kidding, but this is ATHD - there are rebates involved in the vast majority of deals. Then they say, well sometimes rebates do'nt come. And I say well even if some of your rebates don't come, it's STILL cheaper. Then they say, I'd rather not send rebates in cuz they're a pain. This is a seriously stupid argument because the Pro-Raptor people are willing to bite the bullet and stipulate the dumbset things (like pay more and get slower performance and smaller capacity just to not have to send in rebates). Enough said.

You could always stop beating the dead horse but it is obvious that Jesus loves you too much for that(You know God loves you don't you Valsalva). I think you should ask Jesus into your heart right now. If that doesn't get you to freak out I don't know what will.

I'm not sure why you're trying to turn this into a religious flamewar, but I don't appreciate it, and I bet the Christians on ATHD don't appreciate it either. If you're going to make a mockery of Christianity (like you did in that PM to me), this is definitely not the forum to do it.

I'll be waiting for a response that actually addresses my points instead of sidestepping them. I'll bet waiting...
