I received the mobo today. While I haven't fired it up yet, I see that all the potentially-defective "Jackson" 1500uf capacitors have been replaced with "Teapo" 2200uf caps. This is the recommended mod for the VP6, and since excaliberpc.com (Abit-USA) did the work for me, I'd say that in this case "refurbished" is a positive thing.

Wow, it's nice to see someone else actually likes FIC mobo's too! It seems like they don't get enough credit. I've been using them in my system building for a few years now and they have always run trouble free and they are very cost effective. The only reason why I think they are not spoke of as much is they are not known to have aggresive overclocking options, but for mild overclocking...

Just a little warning. Abit charges $25 dollars per RMA whether or not they sent you a bad board. 2 RMAs in a row will cost $50. I had bad luck, probably a fluke. My two RMAs were on a brand new retail board and its replacement.

Within warranty period and with receipt you are correct there is not charge for ABIT. $25 dollars if you lost your receipt and you manufacturer's date is over 3 years, or you damaged the board in some way.

The "refurbished" VP6 from Abit-USA tests out fine. Don't buy them all up; I may want another one.

Thanks for the update Sbrowne. I've been an abit fan for the last few years and never had any problems either. I guess I was lucky that my KT7A is still breathing and running....
Anyway just picked up a KX7 for a friend of mine. I had one running for 2 years at 166Mhz FSB on a 1800+ chip until I upgraded to AT7 MAX2 (absolutely loved it) recently and gave the system to my brother.

Excaliberpc.com just raised the price on a refurb VP6 to $95. See what happens when you discuss a hot tip!

What kind of packaging did the motherboard come in, just out of interest?

That's only if you don't have the original invoice from where you bought it, or if your board has physical damage.

And the KX7-333 went from $55 to $65. These deals aren't so hot anymore
