While true, if you ARE in the market for this board, I'd think you'd want it as futureproofed as possible, and the Rev. 3.3 is that way...I don't know if the Rev. 2 will simply BIOS upgrade to run the 1333FSB cpus coming out in a few months. This one will.

And that is the reason some people are looking to this revision vs. Rev. 2, I'd think. Buying it with the possibility of future upgrades of the cpu down the line and having a board that is compatible with the new cpus.

Yeah, I'm glad I saw it.

I plan to move to quad core but for the time a mildly over clocked E4300 should hold me over till quads drop a little more in price.

I just received a board from NewEgg and it was Revision 1. That is what it says in the upper left hand corner of the board. It appears that Rev. 2 and Rev. 3 are very much alike, with Rev. 3 having 4 on-board fan connections and there also being a decal on the board saying 1333FSB. Otherwise the two boards are very similar, both with the updated electronics. An obvious physical difference is that the Rev. 2 only has 2 fan connectors, same as Rev. 1. If you go to the Gigabyte site they have pictures of all three revisions. To me it appears pretty clearly that herbiehancock's pics show a Rev. 1 and 3 board. Are you all sure that you have these doifferences right.

Sorry to burst your bubble, bud........but Rev. 2 also had 4 fan headers. I HELD BOTH revisions in my hands, side by side.

The differences are exact........Gigabyte has put a 3.3 pic in place of the 2.0 pic...notice how every single thing is exactly the same, down to the tilt of the battery. What are the odds that the battery on two different boards from two different times of production, maybe monts apart, would have the battery turned exactly the same direction? And the lighting for the photos are exactly the same, despite being taken weeks or months apart? Superimpose Gigabyte's Rev. 2 and Rev. 3.3 pics and you'll see absolutely no difference at all....impossible given there were changes to the board.

The answer to that is zero.

Then there is this question and answer quote from a VR-Zone interview with Rockson Chiang, the Technical Marketing Manager Gigabyte United Inc.:

VR-Zone: What did you do to get native 1333FSB support on your 965P revision 3.3 boards?

Chiang: So far only 975X can support 1333FSB. We tried unlocking 1333FSB through BIOS but the end results are not ideal. Therefore, we re-routed the circuitry and added more components. However, 965 still lacks 975x of the dual graphics 2 x PCIe x8 bandwidth.

Now, who are you going to believe........some photos that are so blurry you really cannot read what's silkscreened on the board or the head of Technical Marketing of Gigabyte who says to achieve 1333FSB on their 965P motherboards, they had to RE-ROUTE CIRCUITRY and ADD MORE COMPONENTS....or new capacitors, as I've been saying.

The section of the VR-Zone interview above came from here.

But, no, I'm wrong, Chiang's wrong, and I'm sure you're right, even though you've never handled either the Rev. 2 or Rev. 3.3 boards.

Thanks for playing.....

Apparently it's in Never-Never Land.

I've had that happen before, esp. with FedEx. It'll suddenly scan in at the hub near your house the day before it's scheduled for delivery. While UPS is lousy for moving packages on weekends, at least they keep their web tracking updated fairly currently.

Just got mine. I have mixed feelings about it. I think it will still fit my needs ... but in the end I think I just jumped at the assured hardware revision.

1333FSB, Quad Core, and Vista Support is all over the box. Heat sink on the NB is updated from the last DS3 I installed ... however I'm still not impressed. Honestly the poor northbridge cooler makes me feel like I should have just gotten the P965-DQ6 or one of the many Asus models.

I was debating this or the Biostar 965PT. I ended up ordering the 965PT because the IDE and ethernet controllers on the DS3 are poorly supported in Linux. If you want to take your chances on the v3.3 lottery, mwave has a pretty hot price on the DS3 now, $117.

Hi herbiehancock,
I can't quite read the rev number in your pictures, but the "Rev. 2 from Newegg" looks like a rev 1 board. Hard to tell from the top view, but it looks like the "wavy" heatsink that came with the rev 1. Here is the rev 2 image from the gigabyte site:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Ima...productimage_ga-965p-ds3_rev20_big.jpg
Note the straight sides on the heatsink.

And here is their view of the rev 1 with the wavy heat sink:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Ima...board_productimage_ga-965p-ds3_big.jpg

here is the gigabyte picture of the rev 3.3:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/Ima...d_productimage_ga-965p-ds3_3.3_big.jpg

Honestly I can't see any difference between the 2.0 and 3.3, (except maybe in the reve numbers in the top left corner) but the pictures are not that detailed... Newegg may have just posted a stock photo on their web site, or didn't update it when the rev 2.0 board came in.

Damn, some people just cannot read. Gigabyte's site has put the Rev. 3.3 pic in place of the Rev. 2 pic.......read way above. But, the battery has the exact same turn to it, the photos have the exact same sizes, the same lighting, and.......

I OWNED BOTH THE REV 2 and THE REV 3.3.......had BOTH OF THEM IN MY HANDS AT THE SAME TIME and the REV 2 WAS DIFFERENT THAN THE REV 3.3

Did you even bother to read the interview link with Gigabyte's Rockson Chiang, the Technical Marketing Manager of Gigabyte United Inc., I linked above where he stated that in the Rev. 3.3, they "tried unlocking 1333FSB through BIOS but the end results are not ideal. Therefore, we re-routed the circuitry and added more components."

I guess not......because when you ADD COMPONENTS AND RE-ROUTE CIRCUITRY you CHANGE THE BOARD'S LAYOUT!

Damn, I wish some kids around here would take a few minutes to read instead of trying to find fault with any and everything out there.......guess it must make them feel superior or something. Even when facts are placed in front of them..........they cannot see the forest, the trees, the grass.........only the nose on their face.

Just rehashing the same old chit over and over......gets old.

Hi herbiehancock,
Sorry to get you so upset. I did indeed post without reading this entire thread, so I was unaware of your statement that "Gigabyte's site has put the Rev. 3.3 pic in place of the Rev. 2 pic." I suppose that is possible, but if true, it looks like they first edited in a different rev number up in the left corner and then re-saved the file so that the two don't match. I'm not quite sure why they would do that, but it is possible. (If they did do something like that, it seems more likely to me that they would edit a rev 2.0 picture (becasue they already had one) and use it for a 3.3 picture (because they didn't have one yet.) But that is just pure speculation on my part; I have no special information about the Gigabyte website.) Also, if you look at Gigabytes marketing info for each board, they first mention the "All-Solid Capacitor motherboard Design" with the rev 2 board.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the 83 pages of the *** Official Gigabyte P965-DS3 Thread *** someone pointed out that the Rev 2.0 board got rid of the "wavy" heatsink, which your newegg picture still seems to have. Sorry I can't find the exact quote, but this was from before the rev 3.3 boards even came out.

If you still have the rev 2.0 board, could you check the NB heatsink? Another way to differentiate the rev 1 from the rev 2/3.3 is the Realtek audio chip. Rev 1 uses the ALC883, while rev 2/3.3 use the ALC888.

Sorry to bring this all up again, but these version numbers are very confusing, and if Gigabyte is posting the same picture for two different revs, that isn't helping clear up the confusion.

Hey guys, just stopped by the CompUSA in Tustin Marketplace, Tustin, CA. Not too many good deals as many have already stated. Most stuff was 10% off the already high retail prices. I'll check back again in a few weeks.

Anyhow, I also noticed that all motherboards were 30% off.

I saw that they had a Gigabyte motherboard (GA-965P-DS3 - I'm pretty sure) there for $149.99. After discount it should be $104.99 + tax.

I'm not really sure about the revision but I'm sure you can call and ask.
