Saw this as I was digging through their website for something else, and thought I'd post it here. Don't know if it qualifies for the penny shipping or not. here's the page: CompUSA

PS: will any stores PM a website-only deal? Or will that only work with newspaper ads?

No I've tried, also its says "(Not Available In-Store)" on that page.

Honestly this is a lukewarm deal, there have been quite a few 120gb drives for like $100 AR advertised in various ads lately. Perhaps good for PM pourposes though.

I know; I've also seen a few 120GB drives around $100 for sale at Newegg and Mwave, but they were only 2MB cache versions. Besides, I'm impatient If I can figure out a way to get it in-store rather than ordering or having to wait for a rebate, I'd gladly pay a few more bucks. Just not full retail. And as far as the PM goes, I was wondering if anybody would match it, like Bestbuy, Circuit City, etc. Not just another CompUSA store.

not hot at all. The rebate/PM deals here net you a 120gig for $60-80. newegg has 120 gig 7200rpm 8mb cache WDSE's Maxtors, etc for as low as $107 no tax and free FedEx shipping.

edit: fixed link

I think this is a good deal. First of all, I haven't come across too many places selling 8MB buffer Seagate Barrucuda's (PATA drives). Second, this drive has 3 yr warranty, similar to the WD1200JB. Third, Seagate drives are known for their quality and their quiet operation. The website also indicates that penny shipping is available for this item.

You'd have to find a store that sells 8MB buffer Seagate Barrucuda's in order to PM. I checked BB and they don't have it. They only have the 2MB buffer one.

No tax for you. But there's tax for us Californians.

I think this is a pretty warm deal for this RETAIL boxed 120gb 8mb drive with NO REBATES, NO PRICEMATCH HASSLES, no nuttin'. Yeah, there are better deals around if you're willing to deal with rebates, pricematches, and whatnot. Or if you're willing to buy an OEM drive (which may not have a 3 year warranty). But for a good drive with a 3 year warranty and no hassles of any kind, I think this is a good deal.

Also, the Seagate drives both RUN VERY COOL and are VERY QUIET. Perfect for bedroom computers, Replay/Tivo hacks, etc.

True but thats only one state, whereas CUSA will pretty much tax you all over. Still, the CUSA deal is not hot deal but it's not at all a bad purchase. I'll take a 120gig Maxtor diamond max 9 shipped to my door for $107 though. My current 80 gig DM9's are awesome. Faster then my WDSE or seagate barracudas (I have all kinds) and they are the queitest drives I have ever used. I literally have to put my ear on the case to hear them writing. Only drives I have as quiet are older quantum fireball LM's in my macs.

Thanks for the heads up though NTB. Its a good price for normal CUSA retail.
