The print quality on the 9xx's from HP is so much nicer you might want to spend the extra few dollars. Not a bad price for this one if you don't need the quality though.

Ok, for those of you needing to know the differnce between all the HP 8xx and 9xx printers:

1) HP 842 ($119) uses HP's PhotoRet II color layering process
- downsides is that it uses the HP 15 (19ml of ink) black and HP 17 (18ml(??) of ink)
color cartridge
- these cartridges hold LESS in in them while the same physical size than the
cartridges used the the .....

2) HP 895 ($129) also uses HP's PhotoRet II color layering process
- upside is that it uses HP 45 black (38ml of ink) cartridge and 23 color (30ml of ink)
cartridge
- these cartridges can be found EVERYWHERE from your local Staples/Best Buy/etc, etc to
your neighborhood CVS and Kmart
- has a much faster printing speed compared to the 842 and the 932. Which leads me to...

3) HP's 9xx ($199-$399) series using their PhotoRet III color layering process
- upside is that it also uses the 45 (38ml ink) black cartridges and the new 78
(21ml ink) color cartridge. HP also makes a Large 78 color cartridge (twice the ink,
twice the price)
- has best color quality out of the bunch, same black quality
- high end models (970, 990) has Auto-duplexing unit included (two-sided printing)

If your looking for a printer to screw around with go for the 895, which has the best cost per page and best cartridge availabilty. If your looking for high quality photos, go with the 9xx series. I would stay away from the 842 - high cost per page and relatively slow printouts

I have the 895 and 970 did not see that big difference in the quality

But i have a question.
My 895 is giving me strips when I print pictures. Vertical, equals sizes and very consistent on the whole page. Does anybody knows why? Tech support did not know and I did not want to pay us 160 to get a replacement from the HP

I'd like some more details about using the B&M coupon too. Or do you just print out the coupon code and fake like it's for B&M too? Also, does OD PM against itself? Wanted to pick up the printer today and PM it on Sunday, just in case all the ATers snag em all by then.

The online coupons for Staples are listed at:
Staples Coupons
along with a number of other coupons. I am not sure if you can use these at a B&M.
You will find a number of other coupon codes at:
Fight DIVX

When the 842 came down in price, I thought maybe my sister should get one. Only $60 after coupon and rebate, after all. Then I had second thoughts because of the small cartridges--same price for half the capacity. So I did a little investigation.

What I did was I went to Staples and swapped the black cartridge from a 932 into the 842. Guess what? It printed just fine. I suspect the same holds for the large color cartridge, but was not able to check this out because the 932 uses a totally different cartridge for color (III vs. II), and that cartridge did not work in the 842.

Moral of the story. If you want a cheap printer with great black and white and very good color, go for the 842. Then when you buy new cartridges for it by the higher capacity ones for the 722/832/852/etc. HP for obvious reasons doesn't officially say it (they want to earn back the money they lost from selling the printer so cheap), but the higher capacity cartridges work just fine in the 842.

Thanks for the tip. I knew the ink cartriages in the 842 were smaller, I was hoping to use a refill kit. Anyone have comments on them?

I can also confirm that the HP842C uses the same ink as the 722, 895 and 930, cause I have all 3 with me right now. 840C is going to a friend's computer in a week. 722 for printing just at draft mode and 930 for photo.

And for 60 after MIR and coupon, there's no way you can pass on that especially for printers that you don't ever have to worry about. Still a major fan of HP Deskjet.............Can't say that for Canon, Epson...........seems to go crappy after a while...

About 2 months ago OD has this printer on clearance for $149.88. I posted it awhile ago. I don't know if OD still has them still around but they are in the system. If you could pricematch that would be sweeeeet after the two-day sale is over.

The HP 952 looses the fold-up paper tray that the 932 has, and can hold up to 250 sheets of paper (I think).

BTW, has any1 seen HP's new 960 in person? I saw it on their website.
