Yeah, I don't plan on overclocking any of my CPUs so I guess upgrading would be a good idea then.

Sorry about not being able to figure this out but, since everybody is getting the 800Mhz versions and my motherboard only supports 533, I need some help (the Staples rep was not very helpful....)

Does anyone know the Ingram Micro part # for
+ Pentium IV 2.66 Ghz for the 533 Mhz FSB?
+ Pentium IV 2.8 Ghz for the 533 Mhz FSB?

thanks!

2.6C GHz = IM1894990
2.8C GHz = IM1840451

Where do you get these part numbers from? Is there a catalog or something, because they're not listed at the website.

You can deduce the part number by looking up the item on sites like Sparco.

Whatever the part number there, you reverse the first three, then the second three, then add "IM1" to the beginning of it.

For instance, if the part # you get from Sparco is 123456, then its Ingram Micro part # would be IM1321654. That's what you would give to the Staples rep on the phone.

Sorry if it's a little unclear; it's a lot less complicated than it might sound.

There's a massive thread over at FW that gives all the details on it. Before asking repetitive questions there, I'd suggest taking out a chunk of time to go through the thread as most of your questions will probably be answered already. Lots of good info.

Not so sure about that.
The Sparco code for a P4 2.66Ghz for the 533Mhz FSB is "A663497" and this is way off all the other codes mentioned in this thread.

As you can see from my other post, I am tryign to figure out the IM part # for chips that fit the 533 Mhz FSB. Any help appreciated.

So how much is the 2.8c originally? I might just upgrade my 2.4c that i bought from newegg for $185 a month ago. Speaking of which, do you guys think that upgrading my 2.4c to a 2.8c is worth it?
If you are building a second system then it makes sense but otherwise it looks like a waste of money to me. I mean, we are not talking about big performance difference, in fact it depends on the board more. On the other hand it seems spending another $200+ just for 0.4 GHz when the same or better can be achieved by overclocking ...

OK, thanks for the followup. How does this sound?

Constructed some Staple product #s from Sparco.com

P4 2.66 Ghz (533 FSB)
SPARCO A663497 - > IM1366794

P4 2.8 Ghz (533 FSB)
SPARCO A663797 - > IM1366797

Now, should I og with the 2.8 or the 2.66?
THe price difference is $194 vs $254.

they canceled my order for the 2,6 cos its OOS. sparco says they're awash in them. grrr.

on the plus side though, they did say they'd flag my account with the 30 dollar coupon when i call to reorder.

You should go with 800 MHz CPU, 2.4 or 2.6, or 2.8, either one is better than these Pentium Bs. Why in the world would anybody waste money on inferior processor. I would rather replace the motherboard than go backwards that way.

I agree, the 533 fsb cpus are significantly slower than the 800 fsbs so.....If you are gonna spend $200, might as well spend $100 more and get a new mobo and $100 for ram.

Well, I appreciate your input.
I think the answer is obvious. $$.
Or else, why would I not get the 3 ghz version?

Other people may want to reconsider what mobos they buy.
I have mine, and advice of the type, "sell your car and buy a new one", just don't go far.

Sparco was out around 7PM last night. Does that mean they got the last batch from Ingram or that Staples will have them soon too? I wonder...

i dont really understand hwo they can be "out" because sparco shows 333 in stock. but they ARE OOS in memphis. maybe they will only ship the processor from the warehouse closest to me (i'm from arkansas.)

I should get this deal (see my signature) and although these are 2.4C you can make them do this like my friend did by OCing it.

Does anyone know if you can get Motherboards through Staples? Sure would be nice to 110% price match AND use a coupon.

They did the same to me. I ordered a 2.8 for $241 on Sunday night and a CSR called me on Monday and said they were out of stock and canceling my order. I put up a fight and the CSR said she'd hold my order as a backorder. I still figured I was screwed. Well, the same CSR called me back today and said that the 2.8's were back in stock and that she'd need to re-input my CC info to complete the order. To my amazement the price dropped to $226.25 . I just checked my order at the Staples site and confirmed it. Now I just need to decide on a board. I'm wavering between the ABIT IC7-G, Gigabyte 8KNXP, and the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe.

Are CSRs letting this go through as of now??? I'm real interested in a 2.6. I just built up a P4P800 deluxe, and love it!

Try it with 5:4 memory ratio. What you've told us so far tells us that either your memory refuses to go over 434MHz or the chip refuses to go over 2.6GHz. Try it with 5:4 and find out which one is at fault.
