They took it back even though it was opened, without no hassle?

And I missed this earlier....
"ghouldini said they PM'ed the rebate, so no mailing of rebates necesary"

Not exactly. Mine gave me another $10 off, not the $30, because they just "had" a $20 of their own, and wanted me to use that to send in for. I find it goes to a clearing house in Miami, for PNY, not for CC, so I am sure they will deny it for expired.

I am going to hit the CUSA and get the 128 if they have it.

So it's a mixed bag...some are getting 128MB, AGP8x, while a few are stuck with 64MB 8x?

remember man compusa has a 15% restocking fee

you might have to prepare yourself to eat 100 bucks if you don't get the 128meg card. Unless you want to pay that 15% restocking fee.

but for me I was willing to take the risk.

yeah they took it without problem, it was all in one day. Less than 1 hour. so they can't say anything. Honestly if they did I will point to their No hassle sign and make a scene. hell the reciept says 14 day "try out".

good luck!

well at first I didn't want to deal with the rebate and went to CC and they sold it to me at 129 but when I got home it was a 64 m 8x. rather than 64m 4x.

then I went compusa and had them open the box for me, all thought it didn't say 128 8x on the sticker it didn't say 64m8x like the one at cc. it just had gf4ti20008x so I took a chance.

Well, if it's not a 128 at CUSA for me, then I can just return that to CC then. I would be dealing with a $30 over the $20 rebate then, and with CUSA instead of PNY.

Anyone in Michigan CUSA's getting 128's ?

The outside of the box gives no clue that anything unusual is up. I open up the box and the anti-static bag says GF4TI4200AGP8X 128M! This is great ... it's a $200 - 250 card.

Further ID: The card has eight RAM chips under the heat sinks. I could be wrong but I believe that all Ti4000 cards use 16MB chips. 8 chips = 128MB. The sticker on the rear of the card has the GF...AGP8X number above. It also has VCGF4T42A8BP on it. If you web search on that you get 128MB AGP 8x cards. WAHOO!

The 128 MB should come in handy in gaming to keep all the graphics info on the card.

About San Diego ... I picked the card up at the CompUSA on Kearny Mesa Road in the Convoy area. There were only 2 cards left after I bought mine on Tuesday. Good luck!

I doubt we'll be needing the warranty any time soon because these cards are all from a new batch. I'd seen in USENET that some manufacturers had previously had some few problems with RAM on TI4000 cards. I also read that getting through to PNY on the phone for support/RMA numbers/etc. was really really difficult. It looks like we lucked out and we won't need to do that.

On pricewatch the 128MB cards start at $135 delivered.....not sure if this is even worth the hassle.

For a regular person maybe... but a lot ATers are willing to go that extra step for a good deal. (lol...see RossMan's post below..point proven )

BTW: How are these on overclocking? Never owned a PNY card before.

You should be ashamed of yourself!

We Ferengi would NEVER stoop to paying retail.

I called CUSA in New Orleans yesterday afternoon. They had 2 left, I got the guy to hold 1 behind the counter for me. Opened it up once I got back in the truck - it's the 128MB version! The other 1 that he said was on the shelf a couple hours earlier was gone - probably another Anandtech hot deal forum reader. They say they have 2 more on order but couldn't tell me if they'd be in before the deal was over.

noticing that some of the boxes i've seen on the shelf have "64mb" in a yellow shout box on the front... are the 128mb not labeled as such?
just throwing that out... haven't got around to replacing the gf3 with the one i got from bb tgf
yeah, i could probably exchange it being unopened and all, but my conscience sigh

atleast from my experience when I had a 64 m 8x(also error I believe) from CC and then got the 128 8x from compusa.

there was absolutely NO way to tell them apart. The boxes are completely identical.

Just picked on up from CompUSA. I haven't yet installed it so I don't know if it is 128, or not, but, I did notice something. There is a sticker on the underside of the card that has a UPC code on it. The code is not the same as the code on the box. This is giving me some hope that the product in the box is different than the product advertised on the box.

Can anyone with a 128 confirm that they have a sticker on their card with the following UPC:

7 51492 22316 2

The UPC on the box is:

7 51492 21937 0

Thanks.

Just wanted to say I went to the CompUSA in Culver City. The box clearly stated it was a 64MB version. However when I got the car to check it out. It had the AGP 8X sticker on the back of the actually card.

Upon plugging it in the the system I was greeted with the 128MB power on screen. I did verify that the memory was clocked at 513. All in a great deal for $99.00 (After MIR).

I went to the Edison NJ store and they didn't have any in the locked box. I tried to ask someone, but no one would help me, or ran away if I approached them. I will never go back there again, this isn't the first time thats happend.

I pricematched the card at CC and they gave it to me for $125, but its the normal version. Looks like I'll be returning it...

Just got the last one in San Jose Blossom Hill rd store. I called the store and ask them to hold one for me. After I got there, they were holding a mad dog card for me there. Seems like Crapusa is running out of pny ti4200 64mb. They replace that with mad dog ti4200 64mb. I am so down at that moment because that mad dog card is definately 64mb only and with no mem heatsink attached. I went to the shelf and surprisely I found one pny ti4200 64mb hiding in the stack of pny ti4200 128mb. I immediately grab that one and I open the box to see if it is a 128mb version... before I check out. There is no 128mb sign but definately 8x version. So I give it a try. The cashier asked me if it was opened and I said yes. He said he will drop that 15% restocking fee since it has been opened before i check out.
I guess mine is a 128mb card because a net search on the model number,VCGF4T42A8PB, returns 128mb and agp 8x.
It has 8 mem chips on board, 8x16=128. The mem is made by samsung and the chip number is K4D28163HD-TC40.
The mem should be 4ns, which is good for 250/500mhz.
If you want to avoid the 15% restock fee, you can ask the employees to open the package before you check out or you can do it yourself. Also check the model number and see if it is VCGF4T42A8PB.

I've been to the Freehold one once, and I like that. People actually help you and the store seemed pretty well stocked. Its a pain to get to from where I am and Route 9 isn't the greatest road traffic wise and such...

Edit: What kind of box are you guys buying? The one I got today at Circuit City looks like the regular box but in the green area it has a sticker that says "TI4200 64MB Crushes TI 4200 128MB Performance | 500 MHz Memory Clock Rate" wheras they had some boxes that didn't have the sticker...
