Any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Yes. Your motherboard doesn't support 8X AGP.

How is this a CompUSA blunder? The cards are put in the boxes by PNY. ZippyDan called PNY:

and i called PNY about this, and they are purposely putting 128s in there. in fact, the guy said they were supposed to include a letter saying you got a free upgrade, and he was surprised that neither of my boxes had this letter (and judging from thread, nobody else's did either )

And I wonder how many extra cards they sold because of this "blunder". Who knows maybe it was a PNY rep that "leaked" this "blunder" in the first place. Wouldn't be the first time a business did things like this to drive sales up.

Finally, I got in on a good deal. Thanks to whomever posted this.

CompUSA was out of stock so I went to CC with the ad. They had 2 boxes without stickers. They price matched down to 129.99 and said they would give me a rebate form as well. After a long wait, she came back and said she cant find the rebate form so she'll just give me another $30 off. Final cost $108 (CA tax ) with NO rebate forms to send in.

Got home, opened the box and it is a 128mg 8x 4200 card. Im very excited. Thanks again!!!

Hehe just bought one on the way to my class, haha last one with no sticker.. at the Edginer St./Beach store , only pricematched to 99.99 , 100% not 110%, it took me a while to pm, since he was showing me the compusa store ad, and the online price, but the fine print on the Compusa website saved me, "saved addtional 40$ when buy it in store.." yea, that's the magic word for me

Plays WC3 fine.
In fact, WC3 seems to be so lacking in the video horsepower department that I oc'ed the memory to 600 DDR with no problems.
I then turn on MOH:AA and computer freezes.
Ah, well,l running good so far at 550, though.

here's how my good deal went bad...

i found out about this through a forum "lurker" who came in to my best buy to pick two of these up today. We had 5, but only 2 without the sticker so he took the last of them. anyway, employee price on these is something like 137.99, so this is HELLA HOT! I quickly called up another store (crestwood/chicagoland) and verified their stock and had them hold 2 for me. I get there, and argued with the sales managers for about 20 mins. finaly, he told me just buy them here and get the price match at my own store. so i did. heres where my deal went sour. on my way to my best buy store, i got pulled over for going 51 in a 35 ociffer gave me a ticket. so i'm like fudge this, at least i got these video cards, you know? i make it to my store at just about 9:05 pm and walked up to my sales manager who absolutely REFUSED to price match compusa well, anyway, i got 2 cards that cost me 137.99 plus tax each and a $105 speeding ticket to top that

Are the 128MB that are clocked at 513 actually have faster memory than normal 128MB 4200's? Not talking about what they clocked it at, which you could do yourself just as easily.

CC should PM the CUSA MIR because it's a CUSA MIR, correct?

Is the same CUSA sales ad also in the Sunday paper? Dang Epson printer heads clogged as usual.

I just got one without the sticker for around $108 at circuit city. They gave me no hassles about pricematching to $99 at compusa. The sticker on the back says 64mb. And bios also confirms this. Are there any settings in bios that is preventing it from showing up as 128. I saw a post up above that said something similar. I am using an Asus a7v by the way. Thanks!

no.. no bios is blocking this information.. i think the shipment in CC is older shipment ...
and the one from Compusa is newer kind ... that's why ... btw getting it at CC we are avoding the rebate, but
the same time, we are only getting the 64mb one.. which seem to me .. doesn't constitude an upgrade from
my 8500 64mb... sigh.. still i gotta say.. fok@@#

and zayened... i felt ya man.. return that crap

Finally managed to PM one at BB, it's a 128 meg card. Now, get a load of this: it wouldn't run at its default settings of 250 core/513 memory - 3DMark 2K2 freezes, WTF?!? The 64 meg version I got from Staples ran fine at 280/580. Shouldn't have sold that one
PS: I cleaned up the registry and reinstalled the drivers, still doesn't work.

Got one at CC this afternoon in TN. Had two on the shelf, only one didn't have the dreaded sticker on it. Whew.
The model # on the back of the card matched what others have said the 128MB is. Also the key giveaway is the sticker on the static bag - "GF4TI4200AGP8X 128M".
Cashier said he thought it had a rebate, but wasn't sure, took my printed ad, went to ask mgr, came back and PM'd to $99 no problem, even apologized for the wait. CC is always so much more friendly than BB.

Score!

Here's my story:

PM'ed CompUSA at Durham, NC Circuit City for $99.99, but they insisted on making up the diff. only with a $70 CC GC. I knew the card was 64 MB because of the sticker outside - tested it, and it was 64MB. Today I went to CC in Raleigh and they point-blank refused to pricematch They said it was at the manager's discretion and while they were polite, they plain refused to do it. So, I went to the CC in Cary and there the lead CSR told me she would PM only the $40 in-store savings and not the $30 MIR even when I showed them the Durham CC receipt showing the card at $99.99. At that point, I gave up and was returning home. Just on a lark, I decided to hit the Best Buy across at Crossroads Plaza. Last week I had tried to PM CompUSA at this same BB and the rep there refused to do it saying it was $139.99 AR. This time, I told myself that if the card was there without the sticker, I would give it another shot with the CC receipt. The card was there without the sticker (but it had the bar-graph on the back) and I went to Cust. Service. The same girl was there and I didn't have much hopes, but wonder of wonders, she took about a minute to verify with a co-worker that it was the product as in the receipt and gave me a 110% PM $99.50 after tax I always had a higher opinion of CC than BB, especially the ones in Cary. But seeing the way CC is so inconsistent with their PM policy (Durham agreed to PM with a GC, Raleigh refused to PM outright and Cary agreed to PM only $40 in-store savings - all of them had only the 64MB version though) - I am not so sure about CC any more :frown:

Now, I have 2 cards and a $70 GC from CC apart from my pre-buy at CompUSA, which I will cancel now. I think I might return the CC card, but I'll probably put up the $70GC for trade or sale in FS/FT soon

If anybody needs a copy of CC receipt or BB PM receipt, I can try to scan it over the weekend or fax it some place Monday Thanks for the great deal guys. The driving and the time spent probably weren't worth the savings, but the experience was sooo much fun

It freezes the system when running games or 3dmark - looks like the memory can't handle it even at default settings. Wonder if this one is an older 444MHz memory version. Guess it's going back to BB.

i'm not having a problem with my cards...

and here's how my deal got a little better i went to circuit city and asked politely to price match the $99 at CompUSA. The sales manager told me they dont do price matches on rebates, and even pointed out on the compusa printouts i had that they dont do rebate pm's either. so i'm like "oh man, now i gotta drive all the way downtown and the deal ends tonight" and he said "so if i dont give this to ya your pretty much" and i finished with "s.o.l" so in the end, i bought 2 of the cards that have stickers on them from CC for $99 a piece here's how the deal ended up...i took my 2 new CC cards and my old best buy receipt and returned the cards i bought to BB. So i end up with the original best buy cards (128mb 8x 513mhz ddr) paying the CC price

OK, I couldn't be happier. I went to CC and showed them the CompUSA add....they sold it to me for around $92 plus tax. So not only did they do a pricematch after rebate, they gave me the %110 price match. The box did not have the sticker on it. I opened the package at the tag on the bag says "GF4TI4200AGP8X 128M". Boooyaaa looks like a have a 128Meg card! (Plus when it boots up it says 128Meg video ram) I guess my crappy Dell Mx420 will have a home no more. Right away without any tweaking my 3DMark2001 went from a measly 3998 to a decent 10663!!! Thanks Anandtech.
